It was not installed when the OS was installed.

2009-11-17 Thread Russel Winder
Is there a Launchpad feature request here -- send a bug report upstream
?

I'll see what I can do later today, unless someone beats me to it. :-)

Whoever gets the bug report in should put a link to it here and a back
link in the bug report to here.

Which package is it that you are referring to as needing to be installed
to avoid the problem?

It would appear then that there is a bug, that the correct package
dependencies are not in place to ensure a correct user experience.

[Bug 483516] Re: Empathy doesn't allow SIP accounts in Karmic

2009-11-16 Thread Russel Winder
OK on the fourth reboot, some hours after first trying, the SIP entry
appeared in the protocls list for new accounts appeared. So the
original error as reported is only part of the story. It is not a
question of doesn't allow but a question of why does it take so long
for the entry to register?

Of course the SIP accounts don't actually work, i.e. connection fails
when Empathy is started and there seems no way of trying to get a
reconnection attempt except by closing down and restarting.

I know the accounts work as Ekiga when started successfully registeres
the two accounts. Closing Ekiga and trying Empathy leads to no
registtration of the SIP accounts.

In my case, it still didn't appear.
It is not showing any error.
How can I check I have SIP protocol installed for Empathy?

2009-11-16 Thread Luis Lobo
Just a comment, i already installed the telepathy-sofiasip.

Have fixed it. Actually, closing empathy was not enough. I had to run a
pkill mission-control-5
and then start empathy, this made it work.

Thank you for your bug report. The issue is an upstream one and it would
be nice if somebody having it could send the bug the to the people
writting the software (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Upstream/GNOME)
