[Bug 487361] Re: nvidia 7600GS does not boot from install cd or from first boot
Thank you for reporting this issue about xserver-xorg-video-nv. Starting with Lucid, Ubuntu is transitioning to using the -nouveau video driver by default instead of -nv. The reason for this change is because upstream development for the -nv driver has been quite slow. We are quite pleased with the upstream development speed for -nouveau, and hope this will translate into swifter bug fixes as well. Because of this, I'm closing this bug report at this time. I'm marking it wontfix because what you describe is probably a valid issue, but we do not have further plans to work on it in Ubuntu. If you would still like to see this issue investigated, I would encourage you to file it upstream at http://bugs.freedesktop.org/. ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-nv (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed => Won't Fix -- nvidia 7600GS does not boot from install cd or from first boot https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/487361 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
Re: [Bug 487361] Re: nvidia 7600GS does not boot from install cd or from first boot
The actual default driver on the use from cd and install cd will not bring up a GDM display when finished. If you boot directly from the CD no disk image on display. If you use the test installer because you can not get to the cd GDM then you still get no picture on your monitors. I was able to get around this so, no it was not the hardware. I just had to do it on about 20 machines. Re: [Bug 487361] Re: nvidia 7600GS does not boot from install cd or from first boot
Bryce, I do not think this bug should go to the nvidia graphic drivers 180 group as that is not where the problem lies. The problem is with the default xorg driver at boot of the CD of karmic and if I use the text installer which I did after the first problem with booting from the cd the computer will not get to an active xorg display on first boot. This is a function of the original graphics driver installed by the karmic final release medium. So I think the problem is there. Re: [Bug 487361] Re: nvidia 7600GS does not boot from install cd or from first boot
This is a bug in the Koala CD final boot from CD xorg driver and install via the text installer because you can never get to an actual desktop display to install from the live CD rom. [Bug 487361] Re: nvidia 7600GS does not boot from install cd or from first boot
** Description changed: The default xorg driver does not show a workable screen from the install cd or from the standard xorg driver after installation. I needed to drop to a root console to install the nv 180 driver for my nvidia 7600GS systems. It was very frustrating because about 20 of my systems use the nividia 7600GS card. Having no display show up when booting from cd or after using the text install from the 1st hard drive on every machine was a pain. I have noticed several bug reports with the nvidia 7600 cards closed or just dropped. This is a true bug in the Karmic final release. I have tried it on multiple machines. karlrhs - - Its been having boot problems for about a week now, the pale ACER logo screen appears then goes to a blank screen, also the BIOS setting option dont appear (F2) so I cant get into BIOS. i've been looking around for solutions such as re-seating the RAM, putting the BIOS update on a flash pen drive and booting up holding the FN + ESC keys and tried the ACER Boot disc but none seem to be working. It does state "No proprietary drivers are in use on this system". I restarted to get back to the options above and chose the third option "Troubleshoot the error".
