Re: [Bug 48916] Re: printing not working following upgrade to Dapper
Not a problem for me (expiration of incident)... as it's been solved since a long time now... In between I've moved to Edgy, then Feisty and I'm now preparing for Gusty... Cheers, and thanks for the hard work. Hi Ante, I did everything you requested but doesn't work yet, even locally. Seems Dapper doesn't like my printer when connected via usb ... Hereby the report as requested below. Hi Ante, Correction to my previous mail: printing works locally when applying your workaround in /etc/cups/printers.conf; i.e.: replacing DeviceURI usb://Lexmark/Z12 by DeviceURI file:///dev/usblp0. If you are interested in helping with this bug, please add: deb http://www.grad.hr/~ivoks/ubuntu/cups/1.2.1 ./ to /etc/apt/sources.list and do update/upgrade. After that, please try to setup printer normally, from scratch and report if it works then (so, with correct driver, not with Raw/Queue). Ante Karamatić wrote: Problem was/is a bug in CUPS. We are working on it. I understand. Still one remark: With your workaround I'm able to print locally, but remotely, from my laptop for instance, it doesn't work yet. I think that it is due to the fact that since I applied the trick, the printer is seen as a remote (CUPS) printer on my server, and not anymore as a local printer. Anyway, the workaround lets me print documents and it's the most important. Keep up the brilliant work, Cheers, Manuel -- printing not working following upgrade to Dapper https://launchpad.net/bugs/48916 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Could you try: sudo dpkg --purge hplip-base sudo apt-get --reinstall install hplip sudo /etc/init.d/cupsys restart Go to Add New printer and add follow instructions on adding printer. [Bug 48916] Re: [Bug 48916] Re: printing not working following upgrade to Dapper
Hi Ante, I've done what you suggested: a) sudo dpkg --purge hplip-base = The system told me there was nothing to remove for hplip-base wasn't installed. b) sudo apt-get --reinstall install hplip = no problem; operation ran smoothly c) sudo /etc/init.d/cupsys restart = idem Then I went used the Printer Admin program (gnome-cups-manager), removed the existing printer (my Lexmark Z12) then rebooted the PC. When done, I used the tool again to re-create a new printer and put the following data: Screen 1: Printer connection: Printer type: local printer + use detected printer (Lexmark Z12) Screen 2: Printer driver: Manufacturer: Lexmark, Model: Z12, Driver: lxm3200-tweaked (recommended drv) Screen 3: Printer information: Name: Z12, Description: Lexmark Z12 ink jet printer, Location: Server I applied and tried to print a test page (right click on printer icon, select properties, then click on button Print a test page). Before doing so, I checked the printer's properties; everything seemed to be right and matched the settings I entered previously ! The test page did not print and after a while on the General tab of the properties of the printer, instead of the status Ready, I could see Printing:Printer fault! It does the same when I try to print another document (printers.conf from Gedit, for instance), the same happens. Here is my printers.conf: # Printer configuration file for CUPS v1.2.0 # Written by cupsd on 2006-06-15 22:09 Printer Z12 Info Location DeviceURI usb://Lexmark/Z12 State Idle StateTime 1150402161 Accepting Yes Shared Yes JobSheets none none QuotaPeriod 0 PageLimit 0 KLimit 0 OpPolicy default ErrorPolicy stop-printer /Printer In the cups error log (/var/log/cups/error_log), I can read the following (repeats itself): W [timestamp] [Job #number] Printer fault! E [timestamp] cupsdAuthorize: Local authentification certificate not found ! E [timestamp] cupsdAuthorize: Local authentification certificate not found ! E [timestamp] cupsdAuthorize: Local authentification certificate not found ! E [timestamp] cupsdAuthorize: Local authentification certificate not found ! ... and so on... Any ideas about what could still be blocking ? Could it solely be a security problem ? (that certificate stuff ?) Thanks for your help so far, Cheers, Manuel Ante Karamatić wrote: Could you try: sudo dpkg --purge hplip-base sudo apt-get --reinstall install hplip sudo /etc/init.d/cupsys restart Go to Add New printer and add follow instructions on adding printer. [Bug 48916] Re: printing not working following upgrade to Dapper
@Manuel Manuel, Lexmark has some problems with gutenprint in Dapper. You could try adding 'deb http://www.grad.hr/~ivoks/ubuntu/gutenprint ./' to /etc/apt/sources.list, apt-get update ; apt-get upgrade. This will install gutenprint 5rc3. Try then, again. @Simon Please, attach 'lpinfo -v' after you do all the changes I asked.
