[Bug 48975] Re: /etc/init.d/hdparm is not there

2009-12-20 Thread Juhani Simola
There are two problems with the udev script (the one in 9.04):

1. It needs hdparm.conf to have the exact same device name as the one
seen by udev ([sh]d[a-z]). Using symlinks under /dev/disk is not
possible.

2. It seems to be never called for SATA drives.

[Bug 48975] Re: /etc/init.d/hdparm is not there

2009-11-24 Thread Mark A. Ziesemer
Ran across this bug report looking for the same answer.

Doc Nielsen - all udev does is run /lib/udev/hdparm , so it seems that
this could just be re-run as necessary.

flyinggorillaz - At least under Karmic, the rule seems to be a default
rule in /lib/udev/rules.d instead of under /etc/udev/rules.d .
Reference: /etc/udev/rules.d/README .

Question remains - how do we tell udev to reload when hdparm.conf is
changed?

[Bug 48975] Re: /etc/init.d/hdparm is not there

2009-02-18 Thread Ueli
hdparm.conf is interpreted during start-up with a udev rule
(/etc/udev/rules.d/85-hdparm.rules) which calls /lib/udev/hdparm which
is reading the instruction in /etc/hdparm.conf

same with 8.10 here: I've done a apt-get install hdparm, which works
fine, but no trace of a /etc/init.d/hdparm !

[Bug 48975] Re: /etc/init.d/hdparm is not there

2008-04-26 Thread Ralph Corderoy
I've Ubuntu 7.10 and /etc/init.d/hdparm is there.

$ sudo find /etc -name '*hdparm*'
/etc/apm/event.d/20hdparm
/etc/init.d/hdparm
/etc/udev/rules.d/85-hdparm.rules
/etc/hdparm.conf
$ dpkg -S /etc/init.d/hdparm
hdparm: /etc/init.d/hdparm
$ pkg ver hdparm
hdparm  7.5-1ubuntu1
$

But there's no symlinks to it in /etc/rc[0-9].d so it isn't being run.
My settings in /etc/hdparm.conf are seemingly being ignored on booting
so if udev is meant to be picking up the slack, it isn't. Anyway,
/etc/init.d/hdparm is present on a stock 7.10 install.

[Bug 48975] Re: /etc/init.d/hdparm is not there

2007-10-24 Thread dAniel hAhler
From changelog of Gutsy:
hdparm (7.5-1ubuntu1) gutsy; urgency=low
  * Merge from debian unstable, remaining changes:
 - remove init script, install udev rules instead
 - set Ubuntu maintainer address.

In debian/hdparm.preinst there is rm_conffile /etc/init.d/hdparm, so it appears
to get deleted after installing the package.
Looks like a hack to me, and dpkg -L thinks it would be there.

This is expected behaviour though - but the init file should not get
listed in the package contents.

It's indeed not there. I don't think that this is very important
though.  Needs investigation.
