[Bug 491585] Re: Authentication box does not place cursor as do all other authentication boxes in Karmic

2010-07-12 Thread Matthew Paul Thomas
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 433851 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/433851

The speed of the computer probably affects how quickly the password
dialog appears after you click Install. This, in turn, affects whether
the window manager decides to focus the dialog. This is because
PolicyKit (the software that powers the dialog) doesn't know that the
dialog is supposed to be modal to the main Ubuntu Software Center
window. This is because the PolicyKit maintainer refuses to accept an
API that would let us communicate to PolicyKit which window the dialog
should be modal to.

2010-07-03 Thread meatwaddancin
I can confirm this issue as well. Whenever I click Install, the password
box comes up and I begin typing, but instead it starts searching in the
Ubuntu Software Center behind it. And not in the actual search box, just
searching as if you click in the window and start typing.

** Also affects: hundredpapercuts
   Importance: Undecided
   Status: New

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Is this bug reproducible? I have checked it on Ubuntu
9.10 amd64 and the cursor is placed in the password box.

Hi Alex, I had no idea that it would be different under different
systems, but yes, it is consistent and reproducible. I admit I can't
imagine what would make that kind of difference. If it helps any, the
laptop is an Acer 5570Z, with a dual core T2080. If I can furnish any
further info, please just ask. E-mail is in my profile. But it is minor
and cosmetic.

2009-12-02 Thread Don Manyette
Hi Alex, well the plot thickens. I tried it on my desktop which is also
running 910 on a Intel Pentium IV. It also places the cursor correctly,
so this seems peculiar to my machine or processor. I do not have a clue
where this is leading, but I'm willing to try anything you can suggest.
