[Bug 500321] Re: Thunderbird segfaults, gdb says file format not recognised

2010-04-05 Thread Tom Wiltzius
I'm having the same issue, also after an upgrade from v2 to v3 then
trying to downgrade back to v2. Having found v3 to still have a few bugs
I'm trying to go back to v2. I had the mozilla daily PPA enabled to get
the newer version. I disabled the PPA and remove thunderbird-3.0
package, reinstalled normal thunderbird package. Now it segfaults. When
I re-enable the mozilla daily PPA I can't install both side-by-side, as
suggested, because now the daily PPA uses version 3.0.5 to replace the
regular thunderbird, rather than keeping them as separate packages
(which is a strange change, as it was always separate before). Any
ideas? I'm kind of stuck, any help very much appreciated.

[Bug 500321] Re: Thunderbird segfaults, gdb says file format not recognised

2010-01-15 Thread Bashar
for those who might have the same issue its seems its related to
upgrade/downgrade from v2 to v3 then v2

i've installed side/by/side v3 installation and created newer profile
and pointed it to the old profile folder by editing profiles.ini and
worked

Hi Bashar

The error dialogue is telling you that some of the libraries upon which
thunderbird depends are out of date, so it would make no sense to report
your problem as a bug until you rectify that.

This suggests an underlying problem, i.e. that your system is not fully
updated. You need to open a terminal and sudo apt-get update then
sudo apt-get upgrade. You will probably notice that libc6 and libc-bin
are amongst the packages that are listed to be updated.

When you've done this, try to reproduce your problem again. It may have
gone away. If not, try using apport again.

HTH,
Mark

[Bug 500321] Re: Thunderbird segfaults, gdb says file format not recognised

2009-12-25 Thread Micah Gersten
Thank you for reporting this to Ubuntu. Could you please generate an apport
crash report for this?
You can enable apport for one instance like this:
sudo service apport start force_start=1

I am marking this invalid as apport will open a new bug when the crash
is generated. If it does not, you can reset the status of this one to
New and we will try something else.

** Changed in: thunderbird (Ubuntu)
   Status: New = Invalid
