at last, I found that problem is related to BIOS settings. I disabled some
advance options in BIOS,
and restarted, now, it works fine. great !

I love Linux, I love Ubuntu! and thanks for your effort to make Ubuntu
Linux wonderful !

[Bug 502255] Re: Sound crackling in Ubuntu 10.04 with SB Audigy

2011-03-31 Thread chenzero
Hello,
I also encountered the this problem in 10.04. (a totally installation, not
upgrade)
the problem scenario is, after reboot, in the beginning, the sound is audible,
however,
once changing the sound volume or drag the progress bar in the Totem Movie
Player,
the sound becomes crackling noise.

I triedapt-get update;apt-get upgrade,
and re-installed the alsa-base packages.

Following is my box info, ( I tried "apport-collect -p alsa-base 502255", but
it prompted that:

[Bug 502255] Re: Sound crackling in Ubuntu 10.04 with SB Audigy

2010-03-28 Thread Brad Figg
Hi Stuart1745,

Please, if you are still having issues, test with the latest development
release of Ubuntu. ISO CD images are available from
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .

If it remains an issue, could you run the following command from a
Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal). It will automatically
gather and attach updated debug information to this report.

apport-collect -p alsa-base 502255

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would
be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the
issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds .

Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-
upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil
icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and
deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text.

Please let us know your results.

[Bug 502255] Re: Sound crackling in Ubuntu 10.04 with SB Audigy

2010-02-17 Thread Timothy Pearson
Just wanted to mention that an unstable TSC can cause *severe*
crackling/popping on the Audigy series of cards.

If you see a line line "Unstable TSC detected" in your dmesg output, try
adding the notsc option to your kernel boot line, reboot, and see if the
cracking goes away.
