can someone explain to me why is it even trying to read the dvd once grub started processing? seems unnecessary. You may have checked this already, but can you check in your BIOS to see which channels your DVD/CD and your HDD is on: Primary Master - HDD? Primary Slave - ??? Secondary Master - ??? This is not a bios issue, this happens after grub starts booting from HD, bios had dvd/cd boot disabled as well as HD set to be the first boot device.
