[Bug 506951] Re: x locks when starting
No, it is not possible to upgrade only a small part of Karmic. It's fine if you want to stay on Karmic. This kind of breakage sometimes happens in the development version of Ubuntu and if you cannot risk that it might stop working after an upgrade, it is better not to run it. On my laptop I have two partitions. One with Jaunty that I have set up well a long time ago that I use for work, and one with Lucid that I use at home and catch bugs as they appear. Because of this problem my Lucid didn't work for a day or two, but I still could use the computer. -- x locks when starting https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/506951 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

And... I'm closing this bug, since the problem seemed to be exactly the upgrade problem that Alberto described in the email. ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu) Status: New = Invalid ** Changed in: xorg-server (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed = Fix Released -- x locks when starting https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/506951 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 506951] Re: x locks when starting
I also had a working lucid system until I updated on Jan-12 to current lucid. I am able to submit this report because my T400 thinkpad has both an ATI video card and an intel video chip, and I switched to the ATI video card. However, I didn't not have any luck with the VESA driver either. So, it would appear that the radeon driver works, but the intel driver is broken, and perhaps the VESA driver is also. However, the xserver-xorg-video-intel driver is at version 2:2.9.1-1ubuntu1 and has not changed since Dec 07. So it must be other changes (such as perhaps xserver-xorg-core) that have caused the breakage. -- x locks when starting https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/506951 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Yesterday's update (I presume it was xserver-xorg-core) also broke my graphics. [Bug 506951] Re: x locks when starting
Since I migrated back to karmic, do you think it is possible to upgrade only xserver-xorg+may be libc in order try it , without breaking the whole system (using apt pins)? downgrading/upgrading completely will took me almost the day ! And a backup may be similar time. -- x locks when starting https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/506951 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
