If you install the package lame, then it automatically works with Audacity. I think, instead of directing the user to some website, it should just ask if you want to install the required package and do so. @Jo-Erlend: That's a really good idea for an enhancement, but it deserves it's own bug report. Version 1.2.4b-2.1ubuntu1 wouldn't automatically work if users installed lame, and this bug tracks fixing that problem. Enhancing the way that Audacity instructs the user to install lame is something else. Unfortunately, license constraints prevent direct linking of the lame libraries with audacity. Hi Rui, Strictly speaking, I don't think this is a bug. The reason is that audacity works without mp3 export. There are people who won't want to install the mp3 encoding libraries but still use audacity. If you don't object, I think I will close this bug. Hi, My point wasn't wether the user would or not want to install mp3 support. It's the fact that even when the user does install mp3 support, he/she has to point audacity to a shared object which does not have the same filename (or indeed, the same file extension) requested by the program, and so that file is filtered from the file selection dialogue.
