[Bug 512315] Re: Cant Change Password of existing user

2010-03-23 Thread Milan Bouchet-Valat
Ah, OK, now I see what you mean. But this is much more specific than
what you reported originally. I know how to fix this easily, but gnoem-
about-me also needs to be patched. Triggering this bug is relatively
hard, so that's not as major as not being able to change its password at
all.

[Bug 512315] Re: Cant Change Password of existing user

2010-03-23 Thread clarkey
sorry I have been so inattentive to this bug I can confirm that it still
exists in Lucid Beta 1. I have also got an exact way to replicate it. I
found it when I accidentally hit caps lock during the install when I was
typing my password I couldn't log in to my computer after installation
and it took me ages to figure out what I had done. So that is I typed
'PASSWORD123' instead of 'password123' So when I went to change my
password back to 'password123' I stumbled upon this bug. It seems that
when the only difference between two passwords is their capitalization
the program freezes and fails to display the warning that my passwords
are too similar this behavior is shown in password change 1.jpg. Whereas
when I changed my password from 'password123' to 'phssword123' (or any
such slight change) it displays the correct warning as shown in
'Password change 2.jpg'. Hope this helps only a small bug but we are so
close to mainstream acceptance don't want some uninformed media writer
picking on what looks to be like an awesome release because they couldnt
change their password. If you beed any more info let me know!

[Bug 512315] Re: Cant Change Password of existing user

2010-03-23 Thread Milan Bouchet-Valat
21h: I can't tell without more information (as always). If you're in
Karmic, then the only way to fix that is to upgrade to Lucid. ;-) If
you're on Lucid, then it's definitely not the same bug.

BTW I'm closing it due to lack of feedback, please reopen if it turns
out to be still present *in Lucid*.

mciancio: Yes, this is a known bug that's just been fixed in Lucid. But
we don't know whether the current report is about it at all.

clarkey: Now the right version is available in Lucid, could you check
it's actually fixed? Thanks!

[Bug 512315] Re: Cant Change Password of existing user

2010-02-10 Thread mciancio
I noticed this issue with users-admin in the case I changed my password
with a similar one.

Trying with passwd from the console I get:

#~$ passwd
Changing password for max.
(current) UNIX password:
Enter new UNIX password:
Retype new UNIX password:
Bad: new password must be different than the old one
Enter new UNIX password:

Trying with users-admin the button goes grey and just stays there waiting.
In this way the issue is easily reproducible.

Actually I don't think the update has reached servers yet. Check that
'apt-cache policy gnome-system-tools' reports it's 2.29.3.

[Bug 512315] Re: Cant Change Password of existing user

2010-01-25 Thread Milan Bouchet-Valat
Thanks for the report. I'd like you to test the upcoming version 2.29.3
(released tonight) which should enter Lucid in some time, and confirm it
fixes the problem. The release you tested was a work in progress that
has really changed as regards password management, so there's little
point debugging it before we know it's still present in the latest code.
I'll try to send you a reminder when the package is uploaded!
