Got into system through live CD, /boot/grub is unconfigured. Fixed. Auto update copied all /boot files to main root partition instead of separate /boot partition used on this system. Hasn't had this problem before. So it can be fixed through the live CD, per these comments. Thanks for your bugreport. Could you please attach the file /var/log/apt/term.log so that we can debug what happend when the problem occurred? When we have the log we can reassign to the right package.
