[Bug 517620] Re: German Umlaute (and probably other special characters) in path trigger erratic behavior

2010-02-05 Thread AllesMeins

** Attachment added: XsessionErrors.txt
   http://launchpadlibrarian.net/38795800/XsessionErrors.txt

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: xfce4-terminal

Problem: When typing and editing comands that are longer than one line
and the path contains umlaute characters go missing (they are no onger
displayed, but are still present when command is executed), characters
appear in the wrong place, copying this command does not work etc. This
makes it impossible to write the command you want to

  How to reprodude:

1.) Create an folder with special character in its name. For example
testütestä
  2.) Change into that folder
3.) Type a long command (long enough, that it doesn't fit into one line) or
use the up-key to get one from your bash-history that is long enough
4.) Move cursor back to first line and try to edit the entered command
somewhere in the middle
5.) Notice the strange behavior (characters apperear at the wrong place,
pressing del deletes more than one character etc.)

In this directory copying the entered command will not work correctly
either. Instead of copying the complete command as one line as usual it
is split in two diffrent lines resulting in the execution of the first
half, when you paste it back again.

-
- My guess is, that the number of characters that will fit in the rest of the
line is calculated wrong because of the special characters.
