[Bug 518368] Re: gdk_display_sync: assertion `GDK_IS_DISPLAY (display)' failed
I get the two assert lines. No segfault/crash. But, I find an instance of gnome-appearance-properties in the background taking 100% CPU. That is a problem discussed in some older bug-reports and I wonder if there is any relation. I have to do a 'killall gnome-appearance-properties' to get the processor back. My system is running standard Lucid with some customizations on the Ambiance theme (I think this problem started after I did these changes; but that is not certain, I recently shifted from Jaunty to Lucid -- new-install, not an upgrade). I have all packages updated to current. Could not locate any specific fix for this processor hog problem and I am not even sure it is really related to the asserts. Any light on the relation or lack-there-of would be great. Also, any references to specific open bugs discussing this will also help. thanks. [Bug 518368] Re: gdk_display_sync: assertion `GDK_IS_DISPLAY (display)' failed
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or challenging to deal with as a '.crash' file. Please follow these instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer. If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport in /etc/default/apport and restart. If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report you wish to submit. If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using /usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report. I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding. ** Changed in: gnome-control-center (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed = Invalid ** Changed in: gnome-control-center (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided = Low -- gdk_display_sync: assertion `GDK_IS_DISPLAY (display)' failed https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/518368 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 518368] Re: gdk_display_sync: assertion `GDK_IS_DISPLAY (display)' failed
I was able to solve the problem. It is probably related to unadvised partial upgrades I and others did. Explanation: At least in my installation two packages (libgnome-window-settings1 2.30.0-0ubuntu3 and capplets-data 2.30.0-0ubuntu3) were being held back from updating. Both are probably dependencies of the current gnome- control-center package, which consequently, I figure, was also being held back, even though aptitude apparently didn't report so. I had to force the installation of these two packages. It resulted in the uninstallation of the ubuntu-desktop metapackage and then of gnome- control-center, which is part of ubuntu-desktop; so after updating libgnome-window-settings1 and capplets-data I simply had to reinstall ubuntu-desktop. gnome-appearance-properties works fine now. -- gdk_display_sync: assertion `GDK_IS_DISPLAY (display)' failed https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/518368 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
