The serial comma is absolutely required, especially in technical
writing, as it is the only means of providing clarity in otherwise
ambiguous situations.  While this particular sentence would still be
understandable without it, consistency is key in documentation.  In
short, the original is correct.

What you're referring to is known as the serial comma. From Wikipedia:
In American English it is standard in most non-journalistic writing,
which typically follows the Chicago Manual of Style.

As an American, technical writer, and an avid supporter of the serial
comma; I'd say that its use is justified. Other may (will?) disagree.

The Ubuntu documentation follows the GNOME Documentation Style Guide,
which uses the Chicago Manual of Style for grammar and punctuation.
Chicago recommends the serial comma. Marking this as Won't Fix.
