Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to look at all reported bugs in a timely manner. There have been many changes in Ubuntu since that time you reported the bug and your problem may have been fixed with some of the updates. There particularly have been some updates to sound. My sound card is Realtek ALC861-VD and the laptop is Toshiba satellite A100-784.I installed karmic a few days ago and had no sound at all.After trying a lot of possible workarounds but with no solution, i decided to upgrade to lucid.But still no sound.The 'weird' thing is i suspect that the problem has something to do with the following: aplay -l List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices card 0: Intel [HDA Intel], device 0: ALC861-VD Analog [ALC861-VD Analog] Subdevices: 0/1 Subdevice #0: subdevice #0 card 0: Intel [HDA Intel], device 6: Si3054 Modem [Si3054 Modem] Subdevices: 1/1 Subdevice #0: subdevice #0 As you can see there is another device that maybe is mistaken for an audio device.
