Upstream made the following comment 8 years ago "Typically this bugs are caused by the fact that you compiled and installed a new libmtp without obtaining the latest version of the apps [Rhythmbox, Amarok, gnomad2] and recompiled these too. Did you do that...?" No reply was given, but it seems that the problem was induced by mixing software from different releases. Same problem here with a Sansa Fuze 8GB. gnomad2 gives me after 2 or 3 minutes: Device 0 (VID=0781 and PID=74c0) is a SanDisk Sansa Fuze. PTP_ERROR_IO: Trying again after re-initializing USB interface Queried Sansa Fuze 8GB Segmentation fault Next I tried it with libmtp from Maverick but no change. Only reverting to libmtp from Karmic solved my problem. Just an update... I upgraded to Lucid, and was still having problems with this. Rhythmbox crashed, Banshee showed only one song... but Gnomad2 displayed everything fine. Rhythmbox actually showed 2 Sansa Fuzes under Devices, then crashed. After downgrading libmtp to the Karmic version, uninstalling, reinstalling, deleting config files... for whatever reason libmtp 1.0.2-1ubuntu1 in Lucid is now working fine in Rhythmbox, Banshee, and Gnomad2 for me. Rhythmbox even plays songs off the device, which is cool... Banshee doesn't. Let me know if you need any more info or anything. I have the same problem.
