I have a MacBook 5,2 and have been booting in EFI mode with rEFIt, a
manually compiled grub.efi and the following grub.cfg:

set debug=video
set timeout=10
insmod efi_gop

menuentry Linux (no agp, force acpi) {
  root=(hd0,3)
  fakebios
  linux /vmlinuz root=/dev/sda3 video=efifb agp=off acpi=force
  initrd /initrd.img
}

Have you tried an insmod efi_gop line? See
