[Bug 534747] Re: Sound is randomly replaced with noise

2010-03-10 Thread Kimiko Koopman
Hmm, if it helps any, with the latter combination (both 'enable_msi' and
'position_fix' turned on) I couldn't get any sound other than static.
I've removed both of them for the time being so I can at least listen to
music most of the time.

Please first try enable_msi=0 instead of position_fix=1. Then, try
enable_msi=0 alongside position_fix=1.

[Bug 534747] Re: Sound is randomly replaced with noise

2010-03-09 Thread Kimiko Koopman
Yes, I made the requested log. Sorry for the delay. Evolution got stuck
checking for mail again.

During the logging, I tried to play some music using Rhythmbox, play
some event sounds from Pidgin's preferences dialog, and watch a video
with MPlayer (from command line, not GUI). The only time the sound
wasn't just the noise was the first time I unpaused the music (after the
Pidgin experiment); then I heard the music for maybe half a second. I
tried to wait a bit before the MPlayer experiment, but that didn't help.
Strange, because an hour ago I could watch video with MPlayer just fine
(although no event sounds happened to mess things up).

Well, I hope you can make sense of the output :/

Can you now also get a verbose log
(https://wiki.ubuntu.com/PulseAudio/Log)?

[Bug 534747] Re: Sound is randomly replaced with noise

2010-03-09 Thread Kimiko Koopman
I've done what you said. I wasn't sure it would work (removing the
'model=3stack' bit in particular), but it seems my system still works.

Unfortunately, the problem I reported is still present. Randomly, all
sounds/music will instead sound as low-volume crackly noise.

I've run apport-cli again after those changes and will attach the
report.

2010-03-09 Thread Kimiko Koopman
Thanks for the quick response! :)

Unfortunately, that solution didn't seem to change anything :( You did
mean I should create a new file, right? The other options for the snd-
hda-intel module are in /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf. They are
"model=3stack power_save_controller=1 power_save=0".

2010-03-09 Thread Kimiko Koopman
Oops. I tried to do the apport thing anyway, to give you more info to
work with, but it couldn't open the required page because somehow the X
server refuses access to display :0.0 since yesterday to anything not
started from the command line. Well, that's unrelated to this bug
really. I told it to save the report to a file and will attach that by
hand.

2010-03-08 Thread Daniel T Chen
Please create the following line in /etc/modprobe.d/lp534747.conf:

options snd-hda-intel position_fix=1

then reboot. If this workaround fixes your symptom, please then use
apport-collect 534747
