[Bug 537814] Re: New Intel wireless card not working 6250 wimax

2010-10-05 Thread Michael E. Adams
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 532451 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/532451

All,

I read the duplicate bug #532451 and this bug #537814. My comments seem
related, but these reports are for older kernels/Ubuntu releases and I
saw here that someone reported an issue running an NVIDIA driver that
seemed to interact with the wireless issue being reported.

Here is my addition:

I am running Ubuntu 10.10 beta. I have just logged a bug report #655078
which has just been confirmed regarding issues with the NVIDIA driver
for my system. I have provided a complete apport-collect report under
my bug report and have described my system hardware there. I also have
issues with the Intel (R) Centrino(R) Advanced-N + WiMAX 6250 AGN (thus
my report here).

What I have determined in Ubuntu 10.10 beta is that the driver is being
loaded, I can communicate with an unencrypted WIFI but I cannot get an
encrypted connection working. I see that the firmware has been included
in the installation in /lib/firmware (although the execute file
permission is set - not good). However, I get an error message during
boot-up that says no suitable firmware is found to install.

As I have said, I have provided a complete apport-collect report under
bug #655078. Maybe someone can see why my system is not loading the
firmware module that I believe is correct for my system and maybe it
will help others.

Thanks,
Mike

[Bug 537814] Re: New Intel wireless card not working 6250 wimax

2010-03-17 Thread David Strauss
There is no microcode release for any 6050 series cards yet. The 6050
series includes any card model matching 6x5x, most notably the 6250
offered for the ThinkPad T510. Until the microcode is released, the
kernel updates to support the card are useless.

Makes sense - so where can we track development/status of such a
microcode release? Is this all depending on Intel?

This looks promising: http://patchwork.kernel.org/patch/80539/

So there is active work being done for the 6050 series Intel cards -
does anyone know when something like this reaches Karmic, or how to
install it manually?

Mine isn't readily available at the moment, does Ubuntu give you an
option to use closed firmware as a popup for this card?

@KB1JWQ: No, there is no option (that is readily accessible) to install
a binary/closed-source driver/firmware for this hardware.

I just downloaded the latest Intel firmware from that link, backed up my
existing iwlwifi-6000 driver that was already there, rebooted, and had
no success.

It looks like the card is requesting: iwlwifi-6050-3.ucode - is this
something that exists?
