If I understand things correctly the source directory,
/home/kristian/projects/php/smk/smk.dk, is the directory being mounted
using SSHFS? How is the SSHFS mount being made, with what options? How
does the permissions look on the remote side,  where the mounted
directory reside?

Myself I just performed a test backup using rdiff-backup 1.2.8-5ubuntu2
from a folder mounted with SSHFS without any trouble.
