[Bug 542550] Re: [Realtek ALC889A] ALSA test tone not correctly played back

2010-08-31 Thread Steve Conklin
SRU Justification

Impact: The upstream process for stable tree updates is quite similar in
scope to the Ubuntu SRU process, e.g., each patch has to demonstrably
fix a bug, and each patch is vetted by upstream by originating either
directly from Linus' tree or in a minimally backported form of that
patch.

The 2.6.32.21 upstream stable patch set is now available and contains
fixes for this problem. It should be included in the Ubuntu kernel as
well.

2010-06-06 Thread madbiologist
The abovementioned patch has been included upstream in kernel
2.6.35-rc2. From the changelog:

commit 26fd74fc01991a18f0e3bd54f8b1b75945ee3dbb
Author: Daniel T Chen
Date: Sun May 30 09:55:23 2010 -0400

ALSA: hda: Use mb31 quirk for an iMac model

BugLink: https://launchpad.net/bugs/542550

Symptom: On the reporter's iMac, in Ubuntu 10.04 LTS neither playback
nor capture appear audible out-of-the-box.

Test case: Boot from an Ubuntu 10.04 LTS live cd or from an installed
configuration and attempt to play or capture audio.

Resolution: Specify the mb31 quirk for this machine in the codec SSID
table.

Craig, one way is to add the following line to /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-

options snd-hda-intel model=mbp31

I've changed the model over as instructed, but still can't get sound

I added this

to the bottom of

# commented out this line options snd-hda-intel model=mbp3
#added this
options snd-hda-intel model=mb31
#finished add

[Bug 542550] Re: [Realtek ALC889A] ALSA test tone not correctly played back

2010-04-05 Thread f3a97
Hi Daniel,

The mb31 model is the one I'm using with Karmic, and works good!

I'm still trying Lucid using the LiveCD, so I cannot try the alternative
module.

I'll certainly try it one I'll upgrade!

Thanks!
