The monitor is Viewsonic VA1912. I set up dual displays using System-Preferences-Display as a mirror. I have noticed that the external viewsonic monitor suddenly goes blank and the display stops working. A message pops up saying No signal. The notebook display however, is working fine. On the two occassions that this has happened, I was using the mouse. In the first instance, some link in Firefox and in the recent incident, a mail header in thunderbird. as Xorg.0.log.old shows there seems to have been some problem with X (ddxSigGiveup) which made the second monitor go blank. I have installed Lucid on the system and the display freezes suddenly in the middle of a mouse or keyboard movement. I have posted the relevant information on the launchpad site, as suggested by you. I think the problem is due to acceleration because: 1. Once when the system froze, I was in the middle of a very rapid scroll within firefox using the PgUp key on the keypad 2. the other time it was when I was rapidly moving the mouse.
