For me the white bar appears sometimes when I log in and when this happens it always disappears when I open 2 windows, so that the bottom panel's "Window List" has two entries. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/544962 Title: show desktop icon has white bar on its right side -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Yes, this problem still regularly occurs in Maverick. It seems random; I cannot replicate it, but if you move or reload the icon it goes away. [Bug 544962] Re: show desktop icon has white bar on its right side
So, it seems that actually, even if I don't run "killall gnome-panel", the white bar tends to eventually go away. Maybe the chance of the white bar appearing (or not appearing) happens every time the panel changes? I wonder if the white bar can randomly appear after the panel being drawn without it, just by causing the panel to redraw enough times? -- show desktop icon has white bar on its right side https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/544962 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 544962] Re: show desktop icon has white bar on its right side
Hmm, today when I booted into lucid, gnome loaded with both bug #439448 and this one. I ran "killall gnome-panel" to workaround the other bug and, to my surprise, the white bar also went away shortly after. This made me curious and I've tried to experiment a bit with this. First, I think the fact that bug #439448 was present was just a coincidence. Here's the results I've been seeing... When running killall gnome-panel, one of 2 things happen: 1. The panel loads with no white bar 2. The panel loads with a white bar, but if I open a new window or close a window, the white bar goes away when the list of open windows in the panel changes What's interesting is when I keep running this command over and over, sometimes the panel even goes from no white bar to having the white bar. When I have the white bar, I can either keep running the command until it goes away or I can just open or close a window. I have a feeling that when the panel loads, there is a chance that the white bar will appear due to some race condition, but I'm working on limited knowledge here. I'm just a user and I have no idea what's going on underneath the hood. Now, another thing that's interesting though is that if lucid originally boots with the white bar, opening or closing a window doesn't seem to make it go away unless I run the command first at least once.
I'm currently using Ambiance, the default theme in Lucid, and I've noticed the following behaviour. When I get the white line, I can make it go away by going to System > Preferences > Appearance, change to another theme (e.g. Clearlooks), and then change back. When the panel goes back to Ambiance, it does so without the white line. But if, instead, I simply try to do $ killall gnome-panel the white line does not go away when the panel reloads. I imagine #6 is faster than my method if someone just wants a quick workaround to make the white line to go away, but hopefully the information I've provided might be of some use in finding a solution.
This seems to be a problem with the panel or the applet itself. Moving the window list seperator and then moving it back makes the white line go away. -- show desktop icon has white bar on its right side https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/544962 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
