@hyperair, that could work as well.Once upstream decides i could change it. [which i dont think would be anytime soon.] I'm really not convinced we need a -buffering icon though. I see what you mean about color, but I think a minimalistic icon is more important than a monochrome icon. For me, I keep banshee running 24/7 and play music about 25% of the time I'm on my computer. For the rest of that time, it would be nice if all of the colors in the panel were uniform (monochrome). Sadly they changed the messaging indicator to be faded, then the uniform color when you get a message instead of it turning green (wish it would be changed back). So if banshee is the standard grey color when it is idle, what would it look like when it is playing? If it is faded, it doesn't make sense, I wouldn't add more geometry into such a small icon, so I figured blue might be appropriate.
