[Bug 54717] Re: No hibernate option when logging out
Fixed with that update: gnome-session (2.15.92-0ubuntu2) edgy; urgency=low . * debian/patches/11_session_dialog.patch: - updated the name of the dbus methods to query gnome-power-manager sleep and hibernate, make those actions work again from the session dialog ** Bug 57764 has been marked a duplicate of this bug ** Changed in: gnome-power-manager (Ubuntu) Sourcepackagename: gnome-power-manager => gnome-session Status: Needs Info => Fix Released -- No hibernate option when logging out https://launchpad.net/bugs/54717 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 54717] Re: No hibernate option when logging out
OK, This is a new installation, all user configs are LDAP based, each user is a member of "users, plugdev, audio" and a couple of custom NT domains. (definitely NOT adm) The Shutdown and Reboot buttons do NOT appear. The hibernate button DOES appear. Not only that, but it allowed me to click on hibernate, thus shutting down the server. I agree that this is not the issue described in the head of this issue, however it seems to be a related issue and in a multi-user environment, rather critical. The server concerned was a twin Xeon dual-core with 4Gb of run running LTSP connections .. giving "users" the hibernate option is a really bad idea. -- No hibernate option when logging out https://launchpad.net/bugs/54717 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 54717] Re: No hibernate option when logging out
Indeed, the fix described in 57764 works for me. I'm marking this bug as a duplicate of 57764 because the latter is more useful. -- No hibernate option when logging out https://launchpad.net/bugs/54717 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 54717] Re: No hibernate option when logging out
Gareth, this is a different issue. I *think* that users can only shutdown/whatnot their computer if they are part of the 'adm' group - I'm not sure. In any case, it's not a permission error because this was present on a clean edgy installation, with me being the only user on the system. Lukas points to a solution - I'll try it out. -- No hibernate option when logging out https://launchpad.net/bugs/54717 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 54717] Re: No hibernate option when logging out
Ok, when the user is a "user", giving them the "hibernate" feature is a really bad idea. This can be verified by the engineer presently on his way to site .. Letting users re-enable the hibernate feature using gconf-editor is "bad". Is there a way to disable this at system level? I'm assuming shutdown/reboot buttons are permission (/etc/group?) , any reason why hiibernate isn't the same ? -- No hibernate option when logging out https://launchpad.net/bugs/54717 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 54717] Re: No hibernate option when logging out
I can confirm that this is a regression from Dapper. ** Bug 55399 has been marked a duplicate of this bug ** Changed in: gnome-power-manager (Ubuntu) Importance: Untriaged => Medium -- No hibernate option when logging out https://launchpad.net/bugs/54717 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 54717] Re: No hibernate option when logging out
In GConf, /apps/gnome-power/manager/ can_suspend and can_hibernate are both set to true. frogzoo, I don't think that they are disabled by default - AFAIK they are enabled if the computer is known to be able to hibernate/suspend. After all, I *do* get these options in Dapper (i.e. this is a regression). Please ask for any information required to get to the bottom of this. I noticed the same. I have suspend and hibernate enabled in both /etc/default/acpi-support and gnome-power-manager and no suspend/hibernate button appears in logout dialog. -- No hibernate option when logging out https://launchpad.net/bugs/54717 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 54717] Re: No hibernate option when logging out
That said, this is an issue that comes up again & again, and detracts somewhat from the experience of new users. There's no reason the gnome power manager shouldn't have a checkbox to enable/disable suspend/hibernate so that new users can easily find the setting in a logical place. Hence, I'm reassigning to gnome-power-manager. ** Changed in: gnome-session (Ubuntu) Sourcepackagename: gnome-session => gnome-power-manager -- No hibernate option when logging out https://launchpad.net/bugs/54717 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 54717] Re: No hibernate option when logging out
This is the way it's been since Dapper - suspend/hibernate are disabled by default. To enable: System -> Config Editor -> Apps -> Gnome-Power-Manager :can_hibernate/can_suspend Alternatively: System -> Prefs -> Power Manager First time suspend/hibernate is selected for an action, user is asked if they want to enable suspend. -- No hibernate option when logging out https://launchpad.net/bugs/54717 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 54717] Re: No hibernate option when logging out
Are you referring to the top right icon? That's what I was referring to in the initial bug report but apparently I wasn't clear enough. Anyway, when going to the top right icon, cand clicking it, a panel comes up with shutdown/restart/logout/switch user/lock screen, but no hibernate/sleep. (btw , I'm not even sure this belongs to gnome- session.) I'll be happy to provide any information. Thanks.
