[Bug 549521] Re: terminal in Lucid Beta lacks auto-completion after sudo

2011-07-26 Thread dedal
Here is how to get autocomplete to work in the Terminal while using
"sudo". Simply open the ".bashrc" hidden file from your home folder.

sudo gedit ~/.bashrc

Then paste this at the bottom of the file:

if [ "$PS1" ]; then
complete -cf sudo
fi

A brainstorm poll seems the way to go. If many people in interested in
this feature, it will call the attention of developers and somebody will
change the default option.

I'm marking this bug as invalid because is not an error but a feature.

Thanks for your report.

So... since you guys and I myself considered this "option" as a
regression from older Ubuntuversions, but it seems like it is an option,
I'm not quite sure what to do now. Open up a brainstorm poll or mark
this as "won't fix" or "fix released" or "opinion"? Help me out, guys ;)

Actually I don't know how the bash config is set up with a vanilla Lucid
Lynx, but changing my config according to the solution mentioned in the
bugreport you linked, restored the bash - behavior I was used to (i.e.
completion working even after sudo) - Thanx Gilbert.

I don't understand why this is an opt-in in Lucid. It seems like so a perfectly
useful tool, and I could not think of a reason how this could be harmful even
to a person using ubuntu/linux for the first time ;)

[Bug 549521] Re: terminal in Lucid Beta lacks auto-completion after sudo

2010-08-15 Thread gdebat
Apparently the auto completion after a sudo in Lucid is an option left
to the user whether to enabled it or not. By default the final release
sets the auto completion off so it is up to you to enable it as pointed
out in this bug report:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/bash-completion/+bug/477753

I did not have the chance to try it yet as I'm using Karmic right now
but if someone manages to get a result it would be nice to update the
rest of us here.

I have just made a fresh install of Lucid (not beta) and this bug still
exists. As osfight said, this is very very annoying as I use auto-
completion all the time.

is there any workaround for that so far? This is a really annoying bug
(as many many other :). It obviously only happens with a fresh install
of 10.4, after an upgrade, the autocomplete still worked.
