[Bug 550536] Re: Problems with Ubuntu 10.04 BETA1 stability
What do you want to extract from the info files? If you want to extract the inf files? The .inf files only contain formation on what files contains the actual driver. If you want this for installing Windows GPU drivers in a Linux it is pretty much uselss and in-piratical. It has been done for wify drivers, but translating the API's means a big hit to the preformance, some thing that you cand afford when it comes to the graphics system. Also reversengenering the windows API's would be an enormus time consuming task, ridlled with stability and a constant catching up with the latest versions. That time would be much better spend developing a popper driver from scratch. -- Problems with Ubuntu 10.04 BETA1 stability https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/550536 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is a direct subscriber. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 550536] Re: Problems with Ubuntu 10.04 BETA1 stability
but, since u asked, i can give specific hardware. its a HP G61-511WM ATI Mobility Radeon 4200 356mb, with 1024 mb including shared system memory 3GB HP memory Unknown board type with InsydeBIOS F.15 and ver F.3 factory installed but is it possible for ubuntu to include a file converter for things like .inf, and re-rap it into UNIX code? i know the kernels and everthing is different, but theres still has to be a way. -- Problems with Ubuntu 10.04 BETA1 stability https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/550536 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is a direct subscriber. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 550536] Re: Problems with Ubuntu 10.04 BETA1 stability
it still affects me completely. in ubuntu 10.10 Alp.1, too. After upgrading to the latest ubuntu maverick software, it still does. however, the driver (Ati FGLRX) that fixes it in 10.04 keeps me from changing brightness, and in 10.10 it cant be installed. but in the latest of ubuntu 10.10, its as it should, although if the laptop is unplugged, 10.10 thinks its unplugged. thinks its plugged in when i plug it in. but, if i unplug it while its running, it doesnt notice its unplugged. i cant keep u completely up-to-date because my hd spindle screwed (you guessed it right. its a seagate) and i have no portaable device for it to boot from, and im not sure where on the net to find a sata ahci. -- Problems with Ubuntu 10.04 BETA1 stability https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/550536 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is a direct subscriber. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 550536] Re: Problems with Ubuntu 10.04 BETA1 stability
Is this still an issue. Please specify you system hardware (motherboard chip-set, and graphic card in particulate), or if it is a laptop the model number might be enough. -- Problems with Ubuntu 10.04 BETA1 stability https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/550536 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is a direct subscriber. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 550536] Re: Problems with Ubuntu 10.04 BETA1 stability
as for error messages, i do not get any. its a simple system failure caused by adjustments being made to the system's power settings. -- Problems with Ubuntu 10.04 BETA1 stability https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/550536 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is a direct subscriber. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 550536] Re: Problems with Ubuntu 10.04 BETA1 stability
It, when an action applying to the above terms, as well as changing screen brightness, crashes the whole system. Including the programs, desktop, panels, touchpad on/off btn, caplock, numlock, basically the whole computer. Depending on what action, normally just when closing the laptop lid, and having it blank screen, it is so serious that after endless reboots, it crashes at logon screen, playing the startup sound 3 times. Only way to fix that is either reboot, or, sometimes that happens permanently and requires full reinstall. -- Problems with Ubuntu 10.04 BETA1 stability https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/550536 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is a direct subscriber. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 550536] Re: Problems with Ubuntu 10.04 BETA1 stability
Is this still true for the latest nightly? Is it individual programs or the entire system that crashes for you? Please note any error messages that you get. ** Changed in: ubuntu Status: New => Incomplete -- Problems with Ubuntu 10.04 BETA1 stability https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/550536 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is a direct subscriber. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears to be a "regular" (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.
