2010-04-22 Thread Daniel T Chen
Andy, the driver never keys on the human-readable string "1558" or
whatever. It uses the PCI SSID, which you can find in lspci -nv under
Subsystem for class 0403. Because you didn't attach the relevant
information, I have no idea whether the patch for *this* bug works for
you. You should file a new bug.

2010-04-22 Thread Andy Ross
Daniel, this patch won't work for my machine, which reports "Dell Studio
1558", and not the XPS model. I note that 1555 and 1557 (otherwise
identical hardware) are already listed. So presumably this is just an
oversight. What's the proper course here, file a new bug?

Hello Andy:

I still have a couple of other minor issues but David at Canonical assures
me the newest Version 10.4 will take care of it. I've found Ubuntu is much
faster than Windows7 on my computer.

Do you have any other issues?

Bob.

I had the same problem on a Dell Studio 17/1749. I fixed it by
generating this file and rebooting:

i5:/etc/modprobe.d$ cat dellstudio.conf
options snd-hda-intel model=dell-m6
# or dell-m6-amic, dell-m6-dmic, dell-eq

see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HdaIntelSoundHowto

sound is not very loud but for now it is good enough for me.

Sure, remove linux-backports-modules-alsa* and install
linux-alsa-driver-modules-$(uname -r) from ppa:ubuntu-audio-dev.

[Bug 553002] Re: No Sound from Head phone Jack from Studio XPS 1645

2010-04-01 Thread David Bensimon
Hi Daniel,

As Robert has mentioned we have tested installing the linux-backports-
modules-alsa-karmic-generic and rebooting, but that does not seem to
work. Please also note that HDMI audio is also an issue for this laptop,
but I will have Robert file a new report for that issue.

Short of testing the current development version (Ubuntu 10.04 LTS Beta
- Lucid Lynx) can you propose any other changes (packages, alsa module
options) for this particular Laptop?

** Changed in: alsa-driver (Ubuntu)
   Status: Incomplete => New

2010-03-31 Thread Robert Chambers
I was directed by Ubuntu support to do that and it didn't work. They asked
me to file a separate bug report for this.

Hello:

Does the XPS 1340 have the same problem? If so, then yes it should be
added.

Bob.

Hello

There is a test report for Dell Studio XPS 1340 which is similar but not
exact for yours. please is it possible to add your laptop to the
testing/laptop/reports page found on
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/Laptop/Reports.

The report writing is https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/Laptop

This will help greatly to catch bugs for other users.

PS The XPS 1340 passes all requirements so there might not be a bug with
audio after all.
