I. M. Stochastic: please file a separate bug for this issue, let's keep this specific to when Available to all users is checked. All, the issue that you reported is one that should be reproducible with the live environment of the Desktop CD of the development release - Natty Narwhal. It would help us greatly if you could test with it so we can work on getting it fixed in the next release of Ubuntu. You can find out more about the development release at http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/ . Thanks again and we appreciate your help. ** Changed in: network-manager-applet (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed = Incomplete ** Changed in: network-manager-applet (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided = Low -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/554393 Title: nm-applet will not connect using vpnc plugin -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 554393] Re: nm-applet will not connect using vpnc plugin
unchecking available to all users does not work for me. I uninstalled all of my network-manager-* packages (pptp, vpnc, strongswan, openconnect), rebooted, and installed just the one I needed (vpnc). I now get a prompt for passwords, followed by a Connection failed message. -- nm-applet will not connect using vpnc plugin https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/554393 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 554393] Re: nm-applet will not connect using vpnc plugin
I can confirm that unchecking available to all users allows the VPN to connect with the latest version. Thanks for the suggestion. When I originally filed this report, it would not connect even if that checkbox was cleared. -- nm-applet will not connect using vpnc plugin https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/554393 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 554393] Re: nm-applet will not connect using vpnc plugin
I'm running Debian and I have the same problem, and I found that un- checking the Available to all users box fixes it for me. When that box is un-checked, I get a GUI dialog box prompting me for my user password, and upon putting it in I can connect successfully. So it sounds like a problem with dbus or maybe X permissions when that box is checked. Hope that narrows down the problem and is a viable workaround for most people. -- nm-applet will not connect using vpnc plugin https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/554393 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 554393] Re: nm-applet will not connect using vpnc plugin
Same problem here with nm-applet and cisco vpn (10.04 x86). I can connect fine if the user password is saved but never get a dialog if it is set to always ask. This is a pain in the butt if you have to use non-static passwords (e.g. a token code) for your login. -- nm-applet will not connect using vpnc plugin https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/554393 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Tpugliese, Just to make sure, have you rebooted your system since installing network-manager-vpnc/network-manager-vpnc-gnome, and then tested the connect? Also, are there any errors in ~/.xsession-errors? Finally, do you indeed have nm-vpnc-auth-dialog and two other helper programs in /usr/lib/network-manager-vpnc, as configured in /etc/NetworkManager/VPN/nm-vpnc-service.name?
