2012-06-09 Thread houstonbofh
Christopher M. Penalver, I understand the reason for checking later
distributions, but... 10.04 is still supported. Unfortunately, it
seems that the common "solution" is to upgrade to a later distribution,
which may not be an option for some people. It is a good
troubleshooting step, but it is not a solution.

And on that note, I may grab a laptop and start looking into this
problem and giving data. I just hate the idea of a supported version,
that I am using on most of my installations, ignored.

2012-06-09 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Tim Clark, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any
activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue?
Can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images
are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .

If it remains an issue, could you run the following command in the
development release from a Terminal
(Applications->Accessories->Terminal). It will automatically gather and
attach updated debug information to this report.

apport-collect -p linux

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would
be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the
issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once
you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-
testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon
next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and
deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text.

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following
tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag:
'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not
boot, please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream'.

Please let us know your results. Thanks in advance.

Another me too... Present in kernels 2.6.32-19 2.6.32-21 and 2.6.32-22.
I am running an i855 graphics chipset with the patch, but it is still
present in the -19 which does not need the patch. Is there a workaround
other then a 1.6.34 kernel?

2010-04-18 Thread Stefan Glasenhardt
This bug is a regression introduced by a patch with was made to solve
bug #488328. I've made a new bug entry (#563386) which has a small patch
as attachment. This patch reintroduces the deleted two lines of code and
the Xv-overlay mode works again.

So also the following URL for the mentioned change :

http://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/intel-
gfx/2010-February/005902.html

Both vanilla kernel versions 2.6.33.2 and 2.6.34rc4 have the two lines
of code still applied. With this kernel versions Xv-overlay mode works
perfectly.

Problem is still present in the 2.6.32-21 kernel as well. I hope this
gets fixed before the 10.04 release. When people upgrade to a LTS
release and things that worked in 9.10 are broken, it leaves a bad taste
in their mouth.

2010-04-12 Thread Tim Clark
** Description changed:

I installed the latest 2.6.32-19 kernel and I noticed that this gave me
XV support for videos. However, when I try to use Totem or MPlayer with
XV video output my computer crashes with a message 'Could not write
- bytes. Broken Pipe"
+ bytes. Broken Pipe'

To recreate this issue I just open a video file (x264 video, ac3 audio
for track 1, aac audio for track 2, muxed to MKV container) with mplayer
using XV video output and it instantly crashes.

You are correct: someone duped Bug #555685 & Bug #555685 to bug #79
so I followed suite. Yours has precedence over 79 and indeed over
some others. All in all the following are dupl. of Bug # 554432:
79, 555685, 556166, 559214, 557584.

@Tim Clark: Do you want to sort this out? I should prolly have left well
alone when I spotted some dupes before aborting an apport report on this
bug . IMO, bad searching by launchpad/apport is probably responsible
for some of the duplication one sees.

[Bug 554432] Re: kernel BUG at /build/buildd/linux-2.6.32/drivers/gpu/drm/i915/intel_display.c:1917!

2010-04-03 Thread Monkey
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which is important
for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper developers. You can learn
more about finding the right package at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage . I have classified this bug as
a bug in linux.
For future reference you might be interested to know that a lot of applications
have bug reporting functionality built in to them. This can be accessed via the
Report a Problem option in the Help menu for the application with which you are
having an issue. You can learn more about this feature at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

** Package changed: ubuntu => linux (Ubuntu)
