Thank you for posting this bug. Do you notice correlation as to what guest OS you have running? Windows XP SP2 is in End of Life status. As well, Ubuntu virtualbox- ose have been updated. I have exactly the same problem except that it is worse: the eject command does not open the tray either, and it cannot be unmounted. No solution found except turning off VirtualBox which is quite annnoying. I would be very thankful to any person who thinks up a patch to remedy for this. I run Ubuntu 9.04 and VirtualBox 3.1.6.
