[Bug 560598] Re: Netbook-launcher fonts rendered in wrong colour
Toshiba Satelitte 1110 with graphics adapter 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Radeon Mobility M6 LY. Same problem as everyone else - black text both with live CD and on install. I have tried different accounts, and install on USB but still the same problem. 2D is OK and GNOME works fine. ** Changed in: netbook-launcher (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => Confirmed ** Changed in: netbook-launcher (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed => Incomplete ** Description changed: Binary package hint: netbook-launcher Icon labels & section button labels in netbook launcher are appearing in black. I am running Lucid (10.04) on my Thinkpad X-31, dual-booting with Mint 7 & WinXP. It is current (`apt-get update && apt-get dist-upgrade -y` reports 0 available updates.) I have been running it (& updating every time I boot it) since before Beta 1 was officially released. Current version: Linux thinkpad-x31 2.6.32-19-generic #28-Ubuntu SMP Wed Mar 31 17:46:20 UTC 2010 i686 GNU/Linux It works & it's significantly quicker than before, especially the graphics. I also tried the Netbook Remix launcher. It too works way better than it did in 9.04, where it was unusably slow; previously, since Ubuntu 8.x, I have had to disable DRI in xorg.conf to make X usably quick on this machine. The only snag is, all the fonts are black, which on a dark purple background is very hard to read. I am not sure if this is normal for the netbook remix. Other colours look OK, fonts in Firefox etc. have their normal colours - it's just all the buttons & icon labels in the launcher. I've tried changing to the lighter Radiance theme. No difference. The N610C has the ATI Mobility Radeon 7500 4X AGP graphics controller while the Presario V6000 has NVIDIA GeForce Go 6150 graphic cards with NVIDIA nForce Go 430 chipset. The text on the Netbook edition launcher appears white on the Presario but black on the N610C. -- Netbook-launcher fonts rendered in wrong colour https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/560598 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 560598] Re: Netbook-launcher fonts rendered in wrong colour
I have the same problem with black text on the menus. I have installed on two Compaq Evo N610C laptops and both have black text instead of white. This happens using the live cd and on the installed system. When running the live cd on my Compaq Presario V6000, the text appears correctly in white. -- Netbook-launcher fonts rendered in wrong colour https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/560598 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 560598] Re: Netbook-launcher fonts rendered in wrong colour
I am having the exact same issue. I am also using a IBM Thinkpad X31. Tried changing the colour with "GNOME Color Chooser" but nothing seemed to apply to that font colour. Is there anyway we can at least change the color from inside the Config Editor at least? The only solution I have been able to come up with is setting the desktop background to something light. Such a shame because it looks so great with the white text. Also tried a reinstall and launching from CD with same result. -- Netbook-launcher fonts rendered in wrong colour https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/560598 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I also have the dark font within the netbook-launcher and did not find a way to change the font-color I use a very old notebook (Gericom 1st Supersonic "M6-T") with a ATI Radeon Mobility graphic card. I thinkt it's the R100 chipset, too. Is there a config-file for changing font colors of the netbook launcher? I guess you can do it in two step 1/ guest session -> to see if it's configuration specific 2/ usb daily live available at http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/ubuntu-netbook/daily-live/current/ to see if you get that on the live session too. [Bug 560598] Re: Netbook-launcher fonts rendered in wrong colour
Ah. I fear it might require similar or identical hardware. Perhaps, at the least, a machine with the same (rather old) ATI Mobility Radeon graphics chipset. I will look for the guest login option. What do you wish me to boot from USB to confirm this? -- Netbook-launcher fonts rendered in wrong colour https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/560598 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 560598] Re: Netbook-launcher fonts rendered in wrong colour
The booting issues are quite differents and are linked to other issues. Yeah, the last netbook-launcher wasn't to fix that. The report is still incomplete because I can't reproduce it there. I tried numerous time with different config and laptop and I don't have that. Some people in QA tried too… (complete is only set when there is enough info to debug, which isn't the case there). Can you try with the guest session as previously reported? (it's in the session menu). Also, can you try a live usb key to see if it occurs there too? [Bug 560598] Re: Netbook-launcher fonts rendered in wrong colour
A little further info: As of this afternoon's update, which I saw involved a netbook-launcher change, this problem is still occurring. Since the update of yesterday (15 Apr '10) I now have a graphical boot and shutdown sequence for the first time on 10.04, although early in the bootup, the colours are distorted with the logo, text & progress buttons having a green fringe. However, the colour for fonts in the launcher is still black on a dark background. I see that this bug is marked "incomplete"; what further info do you need from me to make it complete? -- Netbook-launcher fonts rendered in wrong colour https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/560598 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 560598] Re: Netbook-launcher fonts rendered in wrong colour
I already tried both Ambiance and Radiance - no difference. I am not sure that I have a guest account, but if I can find it or turn it on, I will try that. I have also tried logging in to normal GNOME, which works perfectly and looks fine. However, GNOME makes very sparing use of transparency effects & text is usually displayed against a light background in windows and so on. In the netbook launcher, the main window is transparent but shaded darker than the wallpaper, and the highlighted selection is darker still, making text almost invisible. I have desktop effects set to "none". I have tried enabling them (in "normal" rather than "extra" mode), and transparency in terminal windows & of inactive title bars works, but it is too slow to be usable, so I disabled it again. It made no difference to font colours. -- Netbook-launcher fonts rendered in wrong colour https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/560598 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Can you try switching to another theme? (the gnome capplet is Appearance one, right) and see if the color changes? Thanks for the reply. No, I have not changed any font colours; all was on defaults. I am not sure what "the gnome capplet" is. I've looked in Appearance and the only font colours selection I can see is under Themes | Customise | Colours; is that where you mean? Thanks for reporting this bug and help to make ubuntu better. Did you change the font color from the gnome capplet? (They should be white by default).
