[Bug 56136] Re: [WishList] Xchat default in Kubuntu instead of Xchat-gnome

2007-08-05 Thread Sarah Hobbs
Neither xchat, nor xchat-gnome, have ever (to my knowledge) been
installed as a part of kubuntu desktop. The seeds show that they are
not now, that they're only part of ubuntu-desktop, etc.

Rejecting this bug.

2007-07-31 Thread Áron Sisak
Thanks for your comments, reassigning (Xchat shouldn't know which packages
depend on it).
By the way apt-cache rdepends xchat-gnome does only mention
xchat-gnome-common and xchat-gnome-dbgsym .

Sorry if I assigned it to the wrong package, feel free to reassign it
again. It might also be fixed since.

[Bug 56136] Re: [WishList] Xchat default in Kubuntu instead of Xchat-gnome

2006-09-04 Thread Hawkwind
I'm curious as to what the status of this wishlist item is. Will xchat
replace xchat-gnome in Kubuntu since it's obviously not Gnome based, or
can we somehow have both xchat and xchat-gnome in the same repo so that
a user will have the choice of which he wants to install immediately
after an install of the OS and not having to add other sources to get
this package.

I find it frustrating that xchat-gnome is in main on Kubuntu because
that signals that it's using Gnome packages and/or could require parts
of Gnome to be installed just to run an IRC client.

More than likely it will not replace anything. as for how far it has
gotten wont know till maintainer/developer states where he is on it if
ok to do or not.

2006-08-12 Thread John Vivirito
Are you on edgy or dapper? what version of xchat is installed. Xchat in
edgy 2.6.6 looks exactly like xchat-gnome is why i ask. Kubuntu doesnt
install any version of xchat or xchat-gnome. If you run apt-cache show
kubuntu-desktop it will show you everything it installs.

[Bug 56136] Re: [WishList] Xchat default in Kubuntu instead of Xchat-gnome

2006-08-12 Thread Hawkwind
When Dapper gets installed, default sources are set so that if you do
apt-get install xchat, it actually installs xchat-gnome since it's in
main and xchat is in universe. For Kubuntu, xchat should be in main and
xchat-gnome should be in universe. This of course should be the
opposite for Ubuntu so that xchat-gnome is in main and xchat is in
universe.

I've had many users ask me why with the default sources for Kubuntu why
xchat-gnome gets installed when they try to install xchat. It's
confusing since the two apps are quite a bit different in a lot of ways.

2006-08-12 Thread John Vivirito
Is it possible to have xchat and xchat-gnome in same repo either main or
universe to rectify this issue. I dont think Kubuntu users want or need
GTK libs installed when not really needed. i confirmed this and i am
gonna change it to wish list.
