[Bug 561729] Re: Bcfg2 package broken in Ubuntu 10.04 LTS

2011-04-25 Thread Sol Jerome
Fabian, I don't appear to have permissions to nominate for
Lucid/Maverick. Can you do this for me? I also am unable to complete the
upload as per steps 3, 4, and 5 on
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates. I can provide any testing
that may be necessary.

Thanks

[Bug 561729] Re: Bcfg2 package broken in Ubuntu 10.04 LTS

2011-04-25 Thread Sol Jerome
** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: bcfg2
+
+ Original report:

Is there any way we can get the bcfg2/bcfg2-server packages at
https://launchpad.net/~bcfg2/+archive/ppa synced to lucid since the
current packages are very broken (see bug #421308)? These packages have
been tested by multiple users and are preferred in favor of the very old
  version that is currently packaged.

+ 1. The bcfg2/bcfg2-server packages are completely unusable due to a python
version upgrade (see bug #421308).
+ 2. Support for more recent versions of python was added upstream in the 1.x.x
series. The 11.04 release has 1.1.1-2ubuntu1 which is tested and working.
+ 3. The changes from the 0.9.6 series to the 1.x.x series were extremely
significant and it would be easier to do a new upload than a diff on the 0.9.6
series.
+ 4. TEST CASE:
+ sudo aptitude install bcfg2-server
+ sudo bcfg2-admin init
+ (follow onscreen instructions)
+ sudo bcfg2-server
+ Note that this test case will show the problem in the broken 0.9.6 packages
whereas the 1.1.1-2ubuntu1 package will run the server successfully.
+ 5. There is no chance of regression issues since the currently packaged
version is completely unusable.
+
  Thanks!
