[Bug 561994] Re: frozen screen when starting unplugged from power cord with ATI graphics
Hi Erni35, This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ . If it remains an issue, could you run the following command from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report. apport-collect -p linux 561994 Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results. Thanks in advance. [This is an automated message. [Bug 561994] Re: frozen screen when starting unplugged from power cord with ATI graphics
I tried radeon.modeset=0, this works. The screen starts dimmed and i could boot through. The function key to reduce the dimming doesn't work, but this is another bug report. [Bug 561994] Re: frozen screen when starting unplugged from power cord with ATI graphics
Like, #509273 this is probably also a kernel drm bug. In fact it's probably a permutation on the earlier issue that the quirk isn't accounting for. ** Package changed: xserver-xorg-video-ati (Ubuntu) => linux (Ubuntu) -- frozen screen when starting unplugged from power cord with ATI graphics https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/561994 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 561994] Re: frozen screen when starting unplugged from power cord with ATI graphics
> It didn't help to gave the kernel the "nomodeset" option. Use i915.modeset=0, I think nomodeset is no longer supported by the kernel. ** Summary changed: - frozen screen when starting unplugged from power chord with ATI graphics + frozen screen when starting unplugged from power cord with ATI graphics ** Description changed: as described in the #509273 I had some problems with the switch to KMS and my ATI graphics card. Now seems all ok,but if I boot up on battery power I run into the same problems with the same symptoms. It boots up but before login screen the notbook freeze and nothing can be done. The same if I start into the rescue console and start there "startx". It didn't help to gave the kernel the "nomodeset" option.
