[Bug 568033] Re: org.freedesktop.Tracker not provided by any .service files, search impossible

2010-11-20 Thread simonp
I think this is a bug (at least in lucid). trackerd is started when the
user login again, but it doesn't appear in Startup Applications, because
/etc/xdg/autostart/trackerd.desktop got NoDisplay=true. A simple fix
would be to set it to false. Any idea why it was was added?

2010-05-23 Thread Gabriel de Perthuis
The error also happens if you mix tracker 0.8 clients with the tracker
0.8 daemon. The new daemon is started with tracker-control --start, and
registers org.freedesktop.Tracker1 instead of org.freedesktop.Tracker .

That's because it is a new D-Bus API. Old clients won't work with the
new daemon

2010-05-17 Thread Tero Karvinen
Same problem with Ubuntu 10.04 LTS and tracker 0.6.95-1ubuntu6. See also
similar bug #369428 Can not enable indexing and bug #231478 Could
not connect to search service as it may be busy.

Tracker starts when started with '/usr/lib/tracker/trackerd'.

2010-05-17 Thread Chris Coulson
Tracker was installed by default in hardy and will still be installed by
default for hardy - lucid upgraders. This isn't an issue in tracker 0.8
in maverick, but it's not going to change for any other release. Please
don't change the status of the bug again

[Bug 568033] Re: org.freedesktop.Tracker not provided by any .service files, search impossible

2010-04-21 Thread Chris Coulson
This was a deliberate packaging decision to stop it from being activated
automatically by Nautilus and the GTK file chooser. It ships an
autostart file though, so trackerd will run unless you disabled it in
gnome-session-properties.

I would recommend trying the latest version of tracker though, which you
can find at https://edge.launchpad.net/~tracker-team/+archive/tracker

I will be uploading this to Ubuntu as soon as the archive for Maverick
opens :)

[Bug 568033] Re: org.freedesktop.Tracker not provided by any .service files, search impossible

2010-04-21 Thread Gabriel Bauman
Since Tracker is not installed by default, this is a pretty mind-
boggling deliberate packaging decision.

If I manually install a package, I should be able to expect it to work.

I did not disable Tracker in gnome-session-properties. `which trackerd`
returns nothing. It appears the autostart is broken as well.
