[Bug 568711] Re: Resume from suspend does not work
@papukaija I've been reporting this bug and a lot of similar bugs) since 8.10 for various notebooks, laptops and netbooks. The list of affected systems I've reported is probably too long to mention. I can confirm that they all work now. What fixed it for me (and all my friends and colleagues) was definitely Kernel 3.0.0. I'm sorry that I didn't report back since the 11.10 release. Thanks for the heads up. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/568711 Title: Resume from suspend does not work To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/568711/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 568711] Re: Resume from suspend does not work
Please be sure to confirm this issue exists with the latest development release of Ubuntu. ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily/current/ . If the issue remains, run the following command from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal) it will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report. apport-collect 568711 Also, please be sure to take a look at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingKernelSuspendHibernateResume . If you can provide any additional information outlined there it would be much appreciated. Additionally, if you could try to reproduce this with the upstream mainline kernel that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. [Bug 568711] Re: Resume from suspend does not work
I experienced the does not resume after suspend problems with ubuntu 10.4.2 LTS on a lenovo thinkpad L420. I searched a lot and tried many things. The thing that seems to remove all problems for me is changing the quirks input in pm-suspend. I read the man page of pm-suspend, which was very helpful. Then I tried pm-suspend in the terminal with various quirk combination that seemed reasonable to me. I have a successful resume with: pm-suspend --quirk-dpms-on --quirk-radeon-off --quirk-s3-bios --quirk-s3-mode To get this working for the system I commented out all other quirks that are listed in /usr/lib/hal/scripts/linux/hal-system-power-suspend-linux Hope this helps anybody Regards, Maarten -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/568711 Title: Resume from suspend does not work To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/568711/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 568711] Re: Resume from suspend does not work
Dear all, I am using a Samsung N150 as well but with Gentoo. The last couple of days I read a lot since I have the same resume problem. I checked here and there and for me finally found a solution which repeatedly worked and sounded reasonable for me: Too me it looks like it is the intel CPU-Idle driver which is responsible. Therefore two solutions: 1) those compiling their own kernel: UNSELECT the "Cpudile Driver for Intel Processors" in Power management and ACPI options in the kernel configuration. or 2) Add "intel_idle.max_cstate=0" to your kernel parameters (please don't ask me how to do this with ubuntu) I hope this time I could contribute something to the linux community as I cannot really develop and usually only enjoy solutions... I have been suffering from this bug for quite a while but I was able to solve it twice. My setup: Dell 1555, Radeon HD4500, Ubuntu 10.4 64-bit. What I had to do in short was: Not to use the fglrx driver that the Ubuntu Hardware Driver addlication offered but to completely uninstall the existing fglrx driver and install the latest driver from the AMD/ATI site. I performed these steps when running the system in recovery mode, but that might not even be necessary (but doesn't hurt either). Uninstall fglrx: sudo apt-get purge fglrx fglrx-modaliases fglrx-amdcccle sudo rm -r /etc/ati /etc/X11/xorg.conf (from here: http://wiki.ubuntuusers.de/Grafikkarten/ATI/fglrx/Manuelle_Treiberinstallation?redirect=no) Download driver from here: http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/linux/Pages/radeon_linux.aspx Run driver installer: sudo sh ./ati-driver-installer-10-10-x86.x86_64.run # (in my case) Initialize driver configuration: sudo aticonfig --initial Reboot... [Bug 568711] Re: Resume from suspend does not work
Check my comment #97 as well as it's link, too. My experiences with resume from suspend with Slackware were very weird. What I can say about my system is that the resume process did not start at all when I experienced the "black screen syndrom". Pm-suspend logs for successful and failed attempts are posted on LinuxQuestions.org (cf. #97). Furthermore: I did disable gnome-screensaver since I had problems with it when I resumed from hibernate. Another thing, since Ubuntu is Debian- based: suspend/resumed always worked well for me with Debian 5 (Lenny) but never with testing (Squeeze). Perhaps somebody could verify this on his system. If somebody would like me to send the full specs of my system (lspci), please let me know. Sorry that I'm not yet willing to install Ubuntu again; Fedora runs just to well and now even suspend to RAM works again. And last but not least: this behavior is not Ubuntu- specific. It affects every distro, I believe, since I saw it on Debian and its derivates (Debian, Ubuntu, LinuxMint, PeppermintOS) as well as on Slackware, SuSE, Fedora and a bit different on ArchLinux (there it was a problem with KMS and could at that time be solved by disabling KMS with kernel bootparameter modeset=0, which is, I think, not possible anymore, if you want to run the X window system). -- Resume from suspend does not work https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/568711 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

This bug is currently the most important flaw in Ubuntu. Problem is, that this directly affects the prime target market for Ubuntu: small netbooks, older laptops and everything where power management is crucial. [Bug 568711] Re: Resume from suspend does not work
I have tried changing every setting that I could find with no luck. Averatec 2150 (MSI motherboard) ati m200 radeon. Not sure that this is just a ubuntu issues as I have tried other deb based live cd's. From searching the boards KDE suffered from the same issue but a work around (modeset=0) worked for that. So could it be a kernel issue? This issue shows up on old and new hardware and numerous chipsets. Supported ATI chips have been helped by 10.5 drivers. Thinkpads that have acpitools can sometimes get it to suspend. I have been able to get hibernate to work, but it is just as quick to cold boot. I have written ATI as I suspect that some of this issued might be related to lack of support for older chipsets and closed drivers related to ATI. @Abraham Smith Can absolutely confirm this behaviour for amd64 version of Ubuntu 10.04 with kernel 2.6.34-rc7. Although usb devices (in my case a printer) seem to have no effect on suspend from what i can tell right now- i didn`t test usb hard-drives yet. The filesystem however seems to get not corrupted when suspend failed. Also after every hard reboot my network-applet showing my wireless-status is deactivated. I have to manually enable networking again. Don't know how this relates to the behaviour... I also get a freeze after running a pm-suspend from gdm login screen with "blinking moon" (with sd-card). The SD card is a regular microSD with the adapter, 2GB FAT drive with whole volume. So, looks like I need a new sticker "remove sd-card before the lid be closed" :) The system is DELL Vostro 1400 with Intel graphics card. -- resume from suspend does not work https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/568711 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 568711] Re: resume from suspend does not work
Same problem as everyone else. What I find strange is that suspend/resume appears to work the first time after a reboot, but subsequent times it just comes out of Suspend and hangs on a blank screen. Occasionally it also freezes going into suspend. -- resume from suspend does not work https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/568711 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 568711] Re: resume from suspend does not work
Ok! "nomodeset" did not work. The desktop was uglier and slower and resume resulted in a black screen. Apparently today is a "resume-won't -work-day". -- resume from suspend does not work https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/568711 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 568711] Re: resume from suspend does not work
My system behaves as Stuart's: one day resume from suspend works, one day it doesn't. With ArchLinux, setting "nomodeset" as kernel parameter resolved my issues but with Ubuntu I was not yet willing to change the default installation settings. -- resume from suspend does not work https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/568711 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 568711] Re: resume from suspend does not work
i have now upgraded back to grub2, and it work as with grub: i can suspend if there is no SD-card mounted. so i guess there is no point in downgrading to grub. so am i the only one with just an "SD-card problem"? strange, it seems to affect different systems differently... -- resume from suspend does not work https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/568711 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 568711] Re: resume from suspend does not work
I did not downgrade to grub. I converted my second partition to ext4, but this did not solve the problem. -- resume from suspend does not work https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/568711 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 568711] Re: resume from suspend does not work
Juerg, I have reverted from grub2 to grub and still have freezes and failure to resume. It does not make the problem worse, but does not make it any better. In combination with fixing various .xsessions-errors ("XID collision, trouble ahead", "Nautilus-Share-Message: Called "net usershare info"" and dmesg error "*ERROR* Forcing to 32M GART size (because of ASIC bug ?)") I can usually run for a full day without a freeze, but a second day after resume usually freezes. HARDWARE of affected users seems to include AMD and Intel processors, NVidia and ATI graphics, as well as varied wireless. Is there anything in common? -- resume from suspend does not work https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/568711 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 568711] Re: resume from suspend does not work
My configuration is similar to jancolpaert's and I can't resume either. I am not using any SD cards. -- resume from suspend does not work https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/568711 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
