Public bug reported: This is a minor bug; though it is quite annoying. Synaptic doesn't use the Gnome proxy settings (configurable via gnome-network-properties) so if I'm in a different location, I must not only change Gnome's settings (just by changing the location) but also manually copy the proxy data into Synaptic's preferences.
Note: the fact that Synaptic is run as root (gksu, not using PolicyKit) may cause implementation problems in that the home folder is /root and not /home/delan - causing the proxy settings to be read from the wrong user... unless... Note #2: home dir locations ($HOME) depending on sudo type: gksu: /root gksudo: /root sudo: /home/delan sudo -s: /home/delan sudo -i: /root If this feature was to be implemented, it would be tricky as proxy settings could only be read from the correct user when using "sudo" or "sudo -s". The proxy settings would be read from root if "gksu", "gksudo" or "sudo -i" are used. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Synaptic doesn't use central Gnome proxy settings https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/569640 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
