[Bug 570885] Re: Login Screen Settings greyed out and unlock button non-responsive
Sorry, i don't know if it i can post it here, but anyway... In my case it had nothing to do with compiz. I had the same problem twice and i solved both on the same way: Reinstalling GDM. (in one case i had to uninstall the LightDM and then reinstall GDM) Thanx. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/570885 Title: Login Screen Settings greyed out and unlock button non-responsive To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/compiz/+bug/570885/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 570885] Re: Login Screen Settings greyed out and unlock button non-responsive
I have the same problem, that is, the Login Screen is greyed out, including the unlock button. Note: I just installed Natty Narwhal (Ubuntu 11.04) on my system. I have a Radeon 2600 XT video card, AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 6400+ and 4 gigs of RAM . I was not able to login successfully the first time. I had to log-in using the Ubuntu Desktop Edition (Safe Mode). I have since rebooted back into Safe Mode and the Login Screen is still greyed out. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/570885 Title: Login Screen Settings greyed out and unlock button non-responsive -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 570885] Re: Login Screen Settings greyed out and unlock button non-responsive
I have the same problem as well. I cannot unlock Login Screen Settings. I looked for a resolution and used the following: 1. Open Terminal. 2. Open the custom.conf file with gedit: gksu gedit /etc/gdm/custom.conf 3. Enter configuration values: [daemon] AutomaticLoginEnable=true AutomaticLogin=lani 4. Reboot. The unlock works and the automatic login is set. But after shutdown or reboot the Login Screen Settings has been reset to manual login and unlock does not work. ** Attachment added: Lucid Lynx error screenshot http://launchpadlibrarian.net/50997542/Lucid_Lynx_error_screenshot.JPG -- Login Screen Settings greyed out and unlock button non-responsive https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/570885 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 570885] Re: Login Screen Settings greyed out and unlock button non-responsive
Final notes: It appears there was a number of issues and it was all traced back to compiz being the culprit. A list of the issues I found were these: * The above mentioned issue. * System Administration Users Settings - Buttons there not working correctly. * Cannot add items or remove them from the Launch Bar. * Cannot reboot/shutdown since it only took me to the login screen in gnome. Hard-restart was required. The solution: Go into Preferences Appearance Visual Effects and make sure it is set to None. If it already was, you may have a different issue. Once you've done this, reboot ( which you may have to do a hard-restart ) and then check again. Everything worked accordingly after doing this. -- Login Screen Settings greyed out and unlock button non-responsive https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/570885 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

@Sebastien Bacher I worked with John Vivirito on the initial issue, which is the topic of this bug and the other things I mentioned in #13 I noticed as we went, which were all fixed once compiz was no longer being used. Therefore I assumed it had some role (to what level I do not know) in the other issues as well since they were similar in behavior and all seemed to be linked to compiz. -- Login Screen Settings greyed out and unlock button non-responsive https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/570885 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
