[Bug 572711] Re: package python2.6-minimal 2.6.5-1ubuntu6 failed to install/upgrade:

2010-05-03 Thread Jon
It looks like this issue was caused by the presence of the Scribes text
editor

http://scribes.sourceforge.net/

which I'd built from source and installed. Ubuntu was refusing to
overwrite the files, so I ended up moving the SCRIBES folder from dist-
packages out into /tmp and running the install again.

Appears to be running fine now. Does anybody know how I would (in
future) tell the upgrade process to ignore (and overwrite) any packages
like this?

[Bug 572711] Re: package python2.6-minimal 2.6.5-1ubuntu6 failed to install/upgrade:

2010-04-30 Thread Jon
I'm in a weird state with this now, if I run

sudo update-manager -d then I get:

An upgrade from lucid to karmic is not supported with this tool

and then:

Xlib: extension RANDR missing on display :1.0.
Xlib: extension RANDR missing on display :1.0.
Xlib: extension RANDR missing on display :1.0.
ERROR:root:Bad upgrade: 'lucid' != 'jaunty'

I've tried adding the Lucid packages to

sudo vi /usr/share/python-apt/templates/Ubuntu.info

but that doesn't help either. Help!
