Hi, I'm not sure if this problem is being looked into, as all has gone quiet... I guess it is not a priority, it also seems my last explanation has not make any impact. I'm sorry but I'm not able to upgrade to 10.04 Lucid... but is all OK with my wireless link on 9.10.. Can any body help please, so I can use the latest Lucid and have my wireless link recognised and active. Regards... Hi Jeremy... Ok I've now started all over again... cleaned my hard drive ... and reinstalled 10.04 from CD image down load. I've updated using the update manager I have the same problem with the non wireless recognition of my Laptop... It was working before with 9.10... has there been a fundamental change with the version 10.04 that is affecting the link. Before I cleaned the Hard drive I put the MS Vista hard drive back and the wireless link and it worked OK... I also reloaded 9.10... and the wireless worked OK... cleaned hard dreive and loaded 10.04... Is i possible that a wireless link recognition has been overlooked... in comparison with 9.10 has been altered or changed. I'm sure I might not be the only person that is having this problem... I'm at a loss as to what has gone wrong.. I'm reluctant to update the other desktop and laptop to 10.04... so I might loose wireless link... Can you put this on your Ubuntu List... Thanks very much for your tolerance and help so far I guess I will have to return to Ubuntu 9.10 and wait for a solution to the wireless problems on 10.04 at a later date, and of course try and find out more about using Ubuntu terminal language etc. Thanks again... Hi Jeremy... Well I've tried to do what you have directed... but unfortunately been unable to make sense of finding the directory... I guess I'm trying to use DOS type of commands. I really do not know this ubuntu terminal language. I need HELP as I have said before... I need an Idiots guide... I'm blind to the Ubuntu terminology. It also seems that you want to pass this problem on to FreeNode... I can not understand why I was able to use my laptop with 9.10 and now NOT with the 10.04 Update I would normally associate an Update would be the same but with enhancements... Sorry but you have to remember I'm a Newbee to the system. Forgive me for being a little blunt but I'm really not sure what to do about my problem... I'm assuming that it will be sorted out in time as I guess 10.04 was released without full testing with all the functions it had before. I hope it will be able to be sort out soon... Hi Dave, You need to replace the *.deb with the filename you are trying to install. In this case linux-headers-2.6.34-999-generic_2.6.34-999.201005041005_i386.deb. You also need to download the image file associated with the headers you have downloaded as you cannot have one without the other. Hi Jeremy... I really do not know what I'm doing... ! I have the file in down loads...linux-headers-2.6.34-999-generic_2.6.34-999.201005041005_i386.deb. and have the terminal eventually loaded with sudo dpkg -i linux-headers-2.6.34-999-generic_2.6.34-999.201005041005_i386.deb then enter etc... Some of the terminology is a little confusing to me give me an electronic circuit and I can whizz around it..!!! Anyway this what I have... Hi Dave, You will need to be working from the directory that your .deb files are located in. typing 'pwd' on the command line will tell you where you are currently in the terminal. You'll need to change directory from wherever you are to wherever you need to go to run the command. Alternately you can seek assistance from the #ubuntu channel in FreeNode on IRC. 1: phy1: Wireless LAN Soft blocked: no Hard blocked: yes Does Hard blocked indicate a Fn-keyboard setting? I had exactly your experience with no wifi after upgrade. As a coincidence, when adding a Bluetooth mouse, I happened to realise that my laptop also has an Fn-command to toggle wifi on/off. Never used before!, but it now worked! Wifi was immediately activated. Hi Bjorn... Thanks for the reply... I'm really not sure this is a cure for the Wireless LAN Hard Block I have... There seems to be no way I can get the enable wireless to work, as it's greyed out... I've been pressing the FN setting with no positive result... Fn did work well with Windows XP Vista. It's so unsettling that it was working on 9.10 and not on the upgrade 10.04. I'll await any other interested parties that might have the solution to this problem... Mean while I'll be using the wired LAN on my Laptop!!!
