There does seem to be some speculation as to the exact cause, but it has been reported to Mozilla and several teams are looking at the report. Yes, 438868 describes this bug. But none of the workarounds tossed around in that bug work for me and it is 100% reproducible after screen saver lock. This never happened to me in Karmic, only started in Lucid. Also this may not be a firefox only bug.
