Steps to Reproduce: 1. Boot System 2. Wait. 3. Randomly loose the code you were working on for the last couple minutes. Actual results: Crashy fun time. Expected results: Boring work. Additional info: I'm a Leo. Wait, did you mean additional info about the problem? In that case, if audio is playing it replays the last couple seconds of buffer on a loop until I button-for-7s the machine---audio is not always playing, however. [Bug 575492] Re: Intel 5100 AGN wireless connection bug
Samiux, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com /daily-live/current/ . If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in the development release from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal), as it will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report: apport-collect -p linux Also, could you please test the latest upstream kernel available following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds ? It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Please do not test the daily kernel folder, but the one all the way at the bottom. Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please comment on which kernel version specifically you tested. If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tags: kernel-fixed-upstream kernel-fixed-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER where VERSION-NUMBER is the version number of the kernel you tested. For example: kernel-fixed-upstream-v3.12-rc1 This can be done by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil icon next to the word Tags located at the bottom of the bug description. As well, please remove the tag: needs-upstream-testing If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the following tags: kernel-bug-exists-upstream kernel-bug-exists-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER As well, please remove the tag: needs-upstream-testing Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug's Status as Confirmed. Please let us know your results. Thank you for your understanding. ** Tags removed: apport-collected ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Triaged => Incomplete ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Assignee: 2012tAlfredo Panesso (aldopanesso) => (unassigned) ** Attachment removed: "second.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/575492/+attachment/1477537/+files/second.txt ** Attachment removed: "first.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/575492/+attachment/1477536/+files/first.txt ** Attachment removed: "UdevDb.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/575492/+attachment/1422753/+files/UdevDb.txt ** Attachment removed: "UdevLog.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/575492/+attachment/1422754/+files/UdevLog.txt ** Attachment removed: "WifiSyslog.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/575492/+attachment/1422755/+files/WifiSyslog.txt ** Attachment removed: "RfKill.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/575492/+attachment/1422752/+files/RfKill.txt ** Attachment removed: "ProcInterrupts.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/575492/+attachment/1422750/+files/ProcInterrupts.txt ** Attachment removed: "ProcModules.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/575492/+attachment/1422751/+files/ProcModules.txt ** Attachment removed: "ProcCpuinfo.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/575492/+attachment/1422749/+files/ProcCpuinfo.txt ** Attachment removed: "Lsusb.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/575492/+attachment/1422747/+files/Lsusb.txt ** Attachment removed: "Lspci.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/575492/+attachment/1422746/+files/Lspci.txt ** Attachment removed: "IwConfig.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/575492/+attachment/1422745/+files/IwConfig.txt ** Attachment removed: "Card0.Codecs.codec.0.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/575492/+attachment/1422743/+files/Card0.Codecs.codec.0.txt ** Attachment removed: "CurrentDmesg.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/575492/+attachment/1422744/+files/CurrentDmesg.txt ** Attachment removed: "Card0.Amixer.values.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/575492/+attachment/1422742/+files/Card0.Amixer.values.txt ** Attachment removed: "BootDmesg.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/575492/+attachment/1422741/+files/BootDmesg.txt ** Attachment removed: "AplayDevices.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/575492/+attachment/1422740/+files/AplayDevices.txt ** Attachment removed: "AlsaDevices.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/575492/+attachment/1422739/+files/AlsaDevices.txt ** Attachment removed: "ProcModules.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/575492/+attachment/1385443/+files/ProcModules.txt ** Attachment removed: "RfKill.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/575492/+attachment/1385444/+files/RfKill.txt ** Attachment removed: "ProcInterrupts.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/575492/+

I also have this problem with 11.10 on a Dell E6320 with Intel Advanced-N 6205. I was inspired to look for a solution based on the page referenced by comment #56, and the idea of #58. To disable power management in Linux, you can do: iwconfig wlan0 power off I haven't done much testing yet, but I was able to see an immediate improvement when I did a successful rsync after this command, when beforehand it repeatedly stalled. [Bug 575492] Re: Intel 5100 AGN wireless connection bug
Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . If possible, please test the latest release candidate kernel (Not a kernel in the daily directory). Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag(Only that one tag, please leave the others). This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. If this bug is fixed by the mainline kernel, please add the following tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream-KERNEL-VERSION'. For example, if kernel version 3.1-rc9 fixed and issue, the tag would be: 'kernel-fixed- upstream-v3.1-rc9'. If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag: 'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'. [Bug 575492] Re: Intel 5100 AGN wireless connection bug
Just an addition to comment #56: I upgraded to the latest 10.03.1 RC (r24038) of OpenWRT (running on a Netgear WNDR3700 router) and changed the wireless regulatory settings according to these instructions (setting the country code to 'SE' since I live in Sweden): http://wiki.openwrt.org/toh/netgear/wndr3700#wireless.regulatory.issues After that I tried enabling N-support again and after 2 days I still have not experienced any problems. I have tried both 2.4 and 5 GHz radio. Also, I had some trouble with my Asus Eee (featuring an Atheros chipset) dropping wireless connections but that also works like a charm after my upgrade. I don't know if it is the upgrade to 10.03.1 r24038 or the Wireless Regulatory patch that fixed my problems, but I would advice others to also check the settings/software in their routers. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/575492 Title: Intel 5100 AGN wireless connection bug -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 575492] Re: Intel 5100 AGN wireless connection bug
I can also confirm this bug after upgrading to 11.04. It might have been there in 10.10 as well, but the symptom was not that significant in that case. I am using a Dell Latitude E6400 with Intel 5100 AGN chipset. Disabling N-support makes connection stable. However, I have also had problems with the same laptop connecting in Windows (using the Intel Windows driver) to my Netgear router (running OpenWRT 10.03). This is due to incompatibility with Power Save Polling (PSP) between the Intel driver and the Netgear router. Workaround is to disable power management in driver settings. This issue (and solution) is described here: http://www.intel.com/support/wireless/wlan/sb/CS-006205.htm Could this be related to the Linux driver issue? [Bug 575492] Re: Intel 5100 AGN wireless connection bug
I too, have this problem. I get about 90 seconds of wifi every two minutes. I'm currently tethering via USB to my mobile phone which is then connected to the wifi so I can use the Internet properly on this laptop. A dangerous game, because if the wifi drops out on the phone I start using my 3G data plan. I'm using an 802.11n wireless router, and a Thinkpad X200s with the Intel 5100. francoisl / amaneiro, please file new bugs for your issue by using 'ubuntu-bug linux' on the command line. This is in keeping with the Kernel Team policy of all users affected by an issue to file a new bug for their particular hardware. [Bug 575492] Re: Intel 5100 AGN wireless connection bug
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we can't fix it without more information. Please run the following command which will attach necessary information: apport-collect 575492 Bear in mind that when prompted to give apport-collect permissions for Launchpad you will need to give it at least the ability to "Change Non- Private" data as it will be adding information to your bug report. If you cannot use apport please at least add the following information (pay attention to lspci's additional options): First run the following commands: 1) uname -a > uname-a.log 2) dmesg > dmesg.log 3) sudo lspci -vvnn > lspci-vvnn.log 4) cat /proc/version_signature > version.log then attach the files separately to the bug report (not pasted into comments or tar/zip-ed). For your reference, the full description of procedures for kernel- related bug reports is available at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelTeam/KernelTeamBugPolicies. [Bug 575492] Re: Intel 5100 AGN wireless connection bug
After investigation, I confirmed that my Lenovo ThinkPad X200 has connection problem when it is connecting to the N router. It is working fine at G mode. The workaround would be disabled the N mode for the Intel 5100 AGN wireless card at the moment. My solution is : sudo nano /etc/modprobe.d/options.conf And add the following to it. options iwlagn 11n_disable=1 11n_disable50=1 After that, reboot your system.
