This could possibly be a manifestation of this upstream bug: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=27108 I'm not going to link to the upstream bug until we're sure. In the meantime, I'll try to get a test kernel built with the two patches known to fix the problem, and see if they solve it for you. The two patches for this don't apply cleanly to Lucid and will require additional work and/or patches from uptream, so I won't have a test kernel today.
