Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gsfonts-x11

When using matlab over xrdp, the plot labels using tex display
incorrectly. For example, title('\sigma') shows a capitol sigma,
'\Sigma' shows a backwards 3.

If the plot is saved as a bitmap (jpg, png), the erroneous letters are
saved in the image. However, if the plot is saved as a pdf or eps, the
file displays correctly on a different machine, or on the same machine
when not logged into xrdp.

Solution: When I purged gsfonts-x11, the problem went away.

I know this use case is rare, and it may not even be gsfonts-x11 at
fault. If anyone wants to suggest something for me to test further, I'll
be happy to try things to track this down. I suspect that this could be
reproduced without matlab by simply creating a pdf with the letter sigma
in the particular font and viewing the file over xrdp, but I haven't
tried that yet.
