Nouveau works nicely on my laptop, including suspend and resume, until
the power source changes (from AC to battery or from battery to AC).

After that event, mouse pointer gets flaky and I see in
/var/log/messages lots of lines like:

100% reproducible. The timing between power source change and the
symptoms varies, but always within minutes I get to the issue.

Right now the only way out seems a reboot, suspending or hibernating
leads to a black screen on resume.

It's only happened once, but when it happened, my machine got horribly
slow. Restarting X "resolved" the issue.

Xorg.0.log and /var/log/messages will be attached...

2011-09-21 Thread Quinn Plattel
Hi,

After 10 days of testing patched kernel 2.6.35-30-generic
#55~lp583760v201107071554ller (rev 10), I think I can safely say that
the patch works - no hidden mouse pointers!

br,
Quinn

[Bug 583760] Re: [PATCH] Mouse cursor dissappears with nouveau

2011-09-08 Thread Quinn Plattel
I have also had the same problems reported in this bug report. My setup is:
OS: Ubuntu Maverick 10.10 64-bit
Kernel: 2.6.35-30-generic
Video: 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation G92 [GeForce 8800
GT] (rev a2)
Monitors: Dual ASUS VK266H in DVI-D mode.

When the mouse cursor dissapears on my primary screen but still works on
my secondary screen, the follow dmesg occurs:

2011-08-31 Thread Herton R. Krzesinski
This bug is awaiting verification that the kernel for Natty in -proposed
solves the problem. Please test the kernel and update this bug with the
results. If the problem is solved, change the tag 'verification-needed-
natty' to 'verification-done-natty'.

If verification is not done by one week from today, this fix will be
dropped from the source code, and this bug will be closed.

See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how
to enable and use -proposed. Thank you!

Ignore my request to test oneiric -- it should work, as the work-around
fix was already merged into the mainline kernel in 2.6.39. Since the
patch is upstream it shouldn't be a problem to pull it in. I've started
test builds, and I'll post links for verification when they're done.

[Bug 583760] Re: [PATCH] Mouse cursor dissappears with nouveau

2011-07-07 Thread Seth Forshee
Has anyone tried oneiric to see if this problem still exists there? The
upstream bug this issue is linked to is marked as having been fixed, and
the oneiric version of xserver-xorg-video-nouveau contains the fix
identified there. Before applying a workaround in the kernel I'd like to
know whether or not a proper fix is available.

This is the fix identified in the upstream bug:

http://cgit.freedesktop.org/nouveau/xf86-video-
nouveau/commit/?id=8378443bd3b26b57ef2ae424a700e01ead813d33
