[Bug 588082] Re: usb interface with wireless keyboard/mouse and usb1.1

2013-10-06 Thread generalghein1
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected saucy staging

** Description changed:

The usb keyboard and mouse may freeze at any time during the use of
Ubuntu Lucid, Fedora, or Suse. The same problem exists on all. If I use
an AC Powered External High Speed USB Hub and connect all my
malfunctioning USB devices through the this Hub all problems disappear.
Everything works perfectly. I can for instance remove and plug back in
the Usb Reciever for the Wireless Keyboard/Mouse as many times as I want
and everything keeps working as long as it is the External Hub. Doing
the same routine on a Usb port directly from the computer the devices
will freeze after the first cycle of un-pluging and re-pluging. If I
have Open Office Writer in use at the same time doing this same
procedure using the Hub and I am typing a word/s the process continues
normally. However if I have the Usb receiver plugged directly into the
computer and Open Office writer open and then unplug the Usb reciever
and plug it back in, I can only type a few letters before a letter or a
space will begin to repeat all on its own and never stop until I push
the reset button on the computer.

[Bug 588082] Re: usb interface with wireless keyboard/mouse and usb1.1

2013-09-30 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
generalghein1, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been
any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an
issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest development
release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ .

If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in
the development release from a Terminal
(Applications->Accessories->Terminal), as it will automatically gather
and attach updated debug information to this report:

apport-collect -p linux

Also, could you please test the latest upstream kernel available following
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds ? It will allow additional
upstream developers to examine the issue. Please do not test the daily kernel
folder, but the one all the way at the bottom. Once you've tested the upstream
kernel, please comment on which kernel version specifically you tested. If this
bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tags:
kernel-fixed-upstream
kernel-fixed-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

where VERSION-NUMBER is the version number of the kernel you tested. For
example:
kernel-fixed-upstream-v3.12-rc2

This can be done by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil icon next
to the word Tags located at the bottom of the bug description. As well, please
remove the tag:
needs-upstream-testing

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the following tags:
kernel-bug-exists-upstream
kernel-bug-exists-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

As well, please remove the tag:
needs-upstream-testing

Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug's
Status as Confirmed. Please let us know your results. Thank you for your
understanding.

It sounds like this is the same problem exhibited in Bug 455660. The
problem seems to be aggravated by a bluetooth transceiver. My fix was
to upgrade to 2.6.33 kernel.

oscrp,
Have you tried an external hub? I found that running my misbehaving usb
devices through an external hub alleviates the problem. I have been
using the hub for almost 2 weeks and it hasn't failed once.

2010-06-12 Thread oscrp
Same problem here. I've been suffering from this bug since Ubuntu 9.10,
my Bluetooth mouse and keyboard just hangs.. sometimes at the first
hour, sometimes after more than twelve hours and no matter what I do the
only thing to fix that is rebooting via ssh. It's kinda annoying because
if you were working on something without saving you lost all the work.
One thing I noticed is that all of this problems began to happen when I
swapped my old AMD SB700 based' motherboard with my brand new Asus M4N82
Deluxe (with Nvidia 980a chipset), very similar to generalghein1 M3N78
PRO. Now I am on 32bit ubuntu, but I've been for several weeks on the
64bit variant with the same problem. Another thing I've seen is that
doing lsusb after the usb freeze just hangs and doesn't drop any
information, the syslogs are also clean, only say error messages while
after I try to replug my devices after a freeze. Hope we can found a
solution to this problem!

2010-06-01 Thread generalghein1
Just an extra comment : I dual boot this computer into Ubuntu and
Windows XP SP3. In Windows XP SP3 the USB devices function normally no
matter how many times I move the USB Wireless receiver while logged in.
It just keeps working like it should. I have Windows XP and Ubuntu Lucid
on the same physical hard drive. I also have a second copy of Windows XP
and Ubuntu Lucid on a second hard drive and they do not function any
different than the first hard drive, meaning the same successes and
failures.

[Bug 588082] Re: usb interface with wireless keyboard/mouse and usb1.1

2010-06-01 Thread generalghein1
Tested with upstream - linux-
image-2.6.34-999-generic_2.6.34-999.201006012302_amd64.deb, and the
headers generic and amd64 headers. The result of the testing is nearly
the same. Before when plugging the USB Receiver back in after removal
from a direct usb port connection to the computer and using Open Office
Word I could type a few letters before a continual repeat would take
place. Using the upstream generic the mouse and keyboard just stopped
working completely. Using the Usb Hub everything continues normally. So
other than the repeat character the result is the same. I also have had
just plain freezes at any time with this system but I had never
experienced the repeating character. All my usb devices work perfectly
when using the external hub. I have a Microsoft 5000 Wireless
Keyboard/Mouse combo. and a Epson 1640su scanner that malfunction when
directly connected to the computer and work perfectly when connected
through the Usb Hub.

Hi generalghein1,

If you could also please test the latest upstream kernel available that would
be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue.
Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the
upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be
done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the
bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text.
Please let us know your results.
