[Bug 594202] Re: grub2 installed on raid1 can not boot from second disk when first disk is removed

2011-03-12 Thread marco.pallotta
Today I have installed 10.04-2 alternate (in virtualbox) and the issue seems
fixed.
In fact I haven't forced to uncomment the line suggested by @Michal to boot
from the second disk when first was removed.

Can anyone (@Michal can you?) confirm this?

I confirm that workaround by @Michal runs ok on desktop release.

[Bug 594202] Re: grub2 installed on raid1 can not boot from second disk when first disk is removed

2010-08-28 Thread Michał Węgrzynek
Confirmed on a physical server: grub in console mode boots from the second disk
without any problems.
My proposed solution is to disable grub graphic console on server installs.

[Bug 594202] Re: grub2 installed on raid1 can not boot from second disk when first disk is removed

2010-08-27 Thread Michał Węgrzynek
I'm currently trying to reproduce this problem in a KVM VM. As long, as

#GRUB_TERMINAL=console

line is hashed, everything behaves as reported.
Uncommenting this line and running

update-grub

seems to fix the problem.

To summarize: if grub graphic console is enabled, one can only boot from
the first HDD.

I'll test it tomorrow on a physical server.

I can confirm this, even if, in my situation (the tests were made with
VirtualBox), the system hangs when it tries to load grub.

On the same hardware and with the same BIOS settings OpenSolaris works
as expected.
