[Bug 60243] Re: Does not resume from suspend

2012-04-21 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Vassilis Pandis, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better.
Gutsy reached EOL on April 18th, 2009.
Please see this document for currently supported Ubuntu releases:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases

We were wondering if this is still an issue in a supported release? If
so, could you please provide the information following
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingKernelSuspendHibernateResume ? As well,
can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images
are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ . However, note
you can only test Suspend, not Hibernate, when using a LiveCD. If the
issue remains, run the following command in the development release from
a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal) as it will
automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this
report.

apport-collect -p linux

Additionally, if you could try to reproduce this with the upstream
mainline kernel that would be great. It will allow additional upstream
developers to examine the issue. Refer to
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the
upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This
can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag
located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-
upstream-testing' text.

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following
tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag:
'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not
boot, please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream'.

Please let us know your results. Thanks in advance.

[Bug 60243] Re: Does not resume from suspend

2010-03-25 Thread Peter Whittaker
There have been no updates or activity on this bug for over a year. Does
the behavior still occur under Karmic (or under the Lucid beta)?

If so, please run the command

apport-collect -p linux 60243

in a terminal window.

If anyone is experiencing a similar problem - but not this exact problem
- please attempt first to find a bug report that matches the problem you
are experiencing; if you find such a report, please attempt to provide
any information by the developers, including possibly running "apport-
collect -p linux theBugNumber".

If you do not find such a report the behavior your are experiencing,
please open a new report as described in
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelTeam/KernelTeamBugPolicies

[Bug 60243] Re: Does not resume from suspend

2008-08-28 Thread Leann Ogasawara
The Ubuntu Kernel Team is planning to move to the 2.6.27 kernel for the
upcoming Intrepid Ibex 8.10 release. As a result, the kernel team would
appreciate it if you could please test this newer 2.6.27 Ubuntu kernel.
There are one of two ways you should be able to test:

1) If you are comfortable installing packages on your own, the linux-
image-2.6.27-* package is currently available for you to install and
test.

--or--

2) The upcoming Alpha5 for Intrepid Ibex 8.10 will contain this newer
2.6.27 Ubuntu kernel. Alpha5 is set to be released Thursday Sept 4.
Please watch http://www.ubuntu.com/testing for Alpha5 to be announced.
You should then be able to test via a LiveCD.

Please let us know immediately if this newer 2.6.27 kernel resolves the
bug reported here or if the issue remains. More importantly, please
open a new bug report for each new bug/regression introduced by the
2.6.27 kernel and tag the bug report with 'linux-2.6.27'. Also, please
specifically note if the issue does or does not appear in the 2.6.26
kernel. Thanks again, we really appreicate your help and feedback.

The open source X nv driver doesn't actually have any code in the kernel. What
you saw was a frame buffer driver for nvidia cards but this is almost never
actually used. It would be interesting to know if you still have problems
suspending and resuming with the vesa driver. If so I suspect your problems do
not lie with X...

[Bug 60243] Re: Does not resume from suspend

2007-04-26 Thread Jos Dehaes
Even though the serio_raw driver was put in the MODULES list in
/etc/default/acpi-support, yesterday I managed to make the machine
reboot on resume. In the logs was again the serio_raw driver. After the
reboot lsmod showed that the driver was loaded, but nothing was using
it. (what is this driver used for anyway?). I completely blacklisted
this driver now, in about a week's time I can comment more on this.

Sidenote: you often hear a lot of crap about the nvidia drivers and
resume, but here is obviously a free driver in the mainline kernel that
is giving me grief. It consistently causes (if the debug procedure is
correct) my machine not to resume. Can anyone take a look at this
driver, to try to fix it? I looked at the source in the kernel, and it's
very small, but I don't know nearly enough about kernel programming and
suspend/resume to be able to see what it is doing wrong...

Reconfirming for 2.6.20 based on Jos' recent testing.

Jos, can you attach the /var/log/kern.log.0 or /var/log/kern.log.1,
whichever covers the failed resume? Thanks.

[Bug 60243] Re: Does not resume from suspend

2007-04-16 Thread Jos Dehaes
Ok, I tried the acpi debug procedure. The driver that was the 'likely
culprit' was serio0 in my case. I looked in the lsmod output and found a
driver serio_raw, which I added to the MODULES in acpi-support. This
seems to have fixed it, I have tried to suspend/resume more than 10

[Bug 60243] Re: Does not resume from suspend

2007-04-16 Thread Jos Dehaes
Just had the problem when I came home from work. Black screen on resume,
can not switch VT, no magic sysrq, only the power button works. This
time it was without any compiz stuff, just plain metacity. I'd say I
get some 80% success rate. I don't have time now, but will try to get
more info using that procedure later today.

2007-04-16 Thread Peter Whittaker
Vassilis, you'll note that I marked this as "fix released" for 2.6.20,
based on other comments. If this doesn't match your experience, please
do change the 2.6.20 status back to confirmed (yes, normally bad form to
confirm one's own bug, but OK in this case, I think!).

If this is fixed in 2.6.20, then it is unlikely that there will be a fix
applied to 2.6.17 unless one of the conditions on [1] are met. So, two
questions: Was there any data loss as a result of this problem? and Did
this work properly in Dapper or any previous release? Thanks!

I would like you to try something. Log into X using the nvidia driver.
Close any essential applications just in case. Then go into suspend -
wait for approx 2 min then hit a key to resume. Even though you get a
blank screen and hard drive activity, just give it some time. Once the
hard disk light goes off wait for approx. 10 more min. Tell me if the
display comes back on within that extra 10 min. I had a similar issue
and could show you how to fix it.

Oh. Another thing I noticed (with .17 and .20) : I suspend. I resume.
The system resumes temporarily but then crashes. I can tell this because
if I hit caps lock all the time the led goes on and off until the kernel
crashes and there is no response and that (at least under edgy) if I was
playing music before my attempt to hibernate, I get to hear a couple of
seconds of music. It never gets to display anything though ('nv'
driver).

Thanks this bug report and for attaching command output. Some of these
commands need to be run with root access in order to get full
information required for debugging, so it would it be possible for you
to run the following and attach the output?

uname -a

sudo lspci -vv

sudo lspci -vvn

sudo dmidecode

It would also be helpful if you could try to hibernate/suspend and after
that fails, restart your system and attach /var/log/kern.log.0 as well.

Thanks again, and sorry to ask you to do things twice!
